Marc Guggenheim was brought on because Goyer didn’t have any TV experience. It was always going to be a temporary thing. He left AFTER they picked up the show for the full season (not something one would be fired for). But Goyer isn’t taking over completely until this season’s last 9 episodes, so he’s going to be on it for another 10 episodes. In fact, he wrote the episode that airs in a couple weeks.
I came by an article on this issue, I believe, the new Show Runner… what ever.
The headline was that it was new, but good news for FlashForward.
Is the general gist, that the show has more show still to be made, and indeed they will be made?
Charlie can’t be asked about her Flash currently, because Dylan needs more introduction.
– I had this idea back when I wrote my previous just up thread. ::
I’m doubling down on my theory that Charlie and Dylan each , but separately obtain some power, knowlege or insight between current day, and the day of the flash. They get some wonder twins powers juju going on from somewhere yet to be seen.
Additional, we havent seen the last of Dylan’s Autism.
And English. Note that because Fiennes is a good guy, he is not allowed to use his English accent.
It’s probably Schrodinger’s kangaroo.
Re: Schroedinger’s cat: I thought it was pretty obvious that Creepy Simon wasn’t the kind of guy who’d let a little thing like scientific accuracy get in the way of talking a woman into bed. His first play was about “heavenly bodies” and “forces of attraction” after all. He was emphasizing that she “chooses” the fate of the cat because he was attempting to persuade/manipulate her into making a distinctly different choice.
I don’t think he killed her, either, because, well, why bother? What would it get him for the time he has to spend getting rid of the body? I think he thoroughly enjoyed freaking her the fuck out, though.
Also, the lack of awareness of “hey! it’s Flash-Forward Time!” in the FFs hasn’t bothered me. Even if you’ve got something marked in your calendar, it’s easy enough to get caught up in what’s happening in the moment so that a precise 2-minute-17-second window might slip by before you realize it. (Who has never been 2 minutes late for an office meeting?) 2:17 is not that long, and I know I’ve been preoccupied for longer periods of time than that.
So some people, with nothing better to do, mark down the precise moment of the FF and have a party in Times Square. A few other people, who are up to their necks in responsibilities and worries (and Benford was also drunk), happen to have their focus elsewhere at the time.
They’ve tried a couple times already. Charlie hasn’t been forthcoming so far.
That’s not it, though. They’ve both been hiding things from each other in the present. Olivia is right that they’ve started not to trust each other. The great tragedy is that there’d be nothing to hide if the FFs hadn’t happened. So the FFs are facilitating the breakdown of their relationship – not because of what they haven’t yet done, but because of what they’re doing (in reaction to the FFs) right now.
Wow, Jack Davenport is Lloyd? I’ve been meaning to look him up for weeks because I recognized his voice but couldn’t place him, and I’m startled to figure out that he was Nornington in POTC. The short dark hair makes him look a lot older than 36.
So…I guess that the old advice about not telling your spouse about a one night stand is true. It makes you feel better, but ruins your relationship. In this case we’re talking about a future fling with a brit and a bottle, but I can’t help but think if Olivia and Benton had kept their guilty silence, they probably would be in a better place right now. As it is, it looks like Benton will drive her into Lloyd’s arms, and in turn she’ll help him dive back into drinking. Idiots.
In case anyone cares… Jay & Jack of The Lost Podcast are doing a podcast of this show. (Warning: iTunes link).
All I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised when Dmitri and the other guy found the bodies in the “Blue Hand” house, and they actually called in an evidence team before touching anything. I was so sure that (for the audience’s sake) they were going to lift the sheets so they could see the faces/bodies, and I was saying, no way would a real cop or FBI guy do that, he should wait for others to ensure non-contamination of the crime scene. Well, they did it right - kudos. Flash Forward.
Watched the show on DVR last night so I’m late to the thread but I figured I’d chime in on a question asked a few times here that I think I can clear up.
When Agent Benford tells Assistant Director Wedeck “we’re even” after he gives him the change it’s a reference to the previous episode where Wedeck cashed in a huge chip in order to keep the FlashForward investigation open on the basis of Benford’s word about his vision. Wedeck had blackmail information on the President and leveraged it to get the bitchy Senator off his back and to keep control of the investigation after Benford completely gagged under questioning. Then when Benford explained to Wedeck that he was drunk off his ass when he had the vision Wedeck freaked out because he essentially staked his career on trusting Benford.
All in all, the line was a throwaway wry joke that loaning the boss $1 in quarters makes them even for his withholding the fact that he was drunk which led Wedeck to burn his huge political capital and essentially put his career and reputation on the line. No mysteries there.
Loving this show so far, the actress that plays Olivia has bugged me all the way back to the HBO show The Mind of the Married Man and she continues to do so here. The show also suffers a little from the Lost disease where every character seems to think the best course of action is to say nothing, ask no questions, and act deceptive as a first resort in all situations whether they are good guys or bad guys. But, I love Lost so I’m obviously willing to sacrifice that in the name or drama and mystery.
They are definitely painting themselves into some corners with the paradoxes though. Janis getting her uterus all tangled up even though she supposedly gets pregnant in 6 months. Demetri maybe getting murdered. Aaron’s daughter apparently being dead and the DNA test confirming that at least part of her is in the buried remains. The fact that this appears to be the entire crux of the show’s drama gives me a little faith that they have a savvy explanation in mind that won’t be complete nonsense. Let’s hope.
Really? Looks to me like they’re all sharing information; the only information they’re withholding is information they’d be embarrassed to mention (on the toilet, off the wagon). Dmitri sees the blue hand, remembers that Benford mentioned a blue hand and Baltimore, gets partner to come along in order to investigate. As soon as they realize that they’ve found something big, they call in the whole FBI to secure the scene make it an official investigation. Seriously, where did they become tight-lipped in an annoyingly Lost-esque manner (much as I love Lost)?
It’s not quite as pervasive as Lost is these days, but similar to how it was in it’s first season. On Lost the characters would share quite a lot because it was necessary to identify the characters and provide exposition, these days with everyone roles established they characters do a lot more of it to manufacture drama.
FlashForward looks like it’s heading down the same path to me. Certainly many of the details have been getting shared because without it viewers would be totally confused, but there’s a lot of fundamental elements that are being conveniently ignored. The fact that no one has bothered to question the kids about their visions, which continues to be ignored every time they do or say something mysterious. The situation between Mark, Olivia and Simcoe has been dished out slowly in little pieces over the course of the first half the season. Janis is being needlessly evasive about her orientation I think, but that’s probably not completely unrealistic I suppose. Demetri’s situation and the call he got from the annoying voiced lady. Their solo exploration of the Blue Hand case without getting backup or telling anyone where they are heading. It’s not crazy yet, but I have a sense that it’ll end up that way.
On Lost, no one told each other anything because they had a zillion different agendas. Jack wanted to get home and screw Kate. Sawyer wanted as much as he could grab, including Kate, and maybe not go home. Kate wanted to not go home because she was a wanted criminal. Locke wanted to stay. Sun didn’t want Jin to know she was planning to leave him, but sometimes had to speak to the others in English. Etc, etc.
One of the kids is autistic, and one of the kids said her vision is ultra-scary and clammed up about it. Who’s going to browbeat little kids into relating a possibly traumatic vision?
Olivia revealed her entire vision to Mark, and told him when she recognized Simcoe in the hospital. Obviously she didn’t tell Simcoe, because she was trying to not get entanggled with him. Mark was quite understandably reluctant to tell her he’d been drinking in his vision, but he told his AA sponsor, someone who could be expected to help him. Simcoe didn’t even know it was Olivia in his vision until he recognized the house in the most recent episode.
Sure, many gay people are closeted.
But what about that did he not reveal to others?
True enough, but at that point, all they wanted was some idea if Baltimore Street (or Baltimore Maryland) was the place in Mark’s vision. I do agree that once they established a connection, it would have been wise to get some backup. Still, as soon as they found the crime scene, they called in the department, they didn’t try to work it out themselves.
I haven’t gotten that vibe. The whole premise of the “Mosaic” approach to solving the mystery of the blackout is everyone sharing information so some greater picture can be achieved. Seems to me they’re going with that.
I just don’t get if the main guy is investigating the flashforward in his vision then that means in the future it is a part of everyone elses pass too right? Then if they know it is coming on the 29th then why do we have these people taking a crap when its happening? Or varies other things? This is a big plot whole to me that needs to be addressed very soon
The hot chick on the train mentioned a lot of peoples flash fowards were of themselves at a big flash foward party in NYC like New Years Eve, so that was cleared up at least. As far as the guy shitting goes, well i guess he really really had to go?
We’ll see. In both shows there’s almost always a way to justify the fact that they aren’t sharing things. It’s never been completely indefensible on either show and that’s why they are watchable and interesting. But, eventually it becomes a theme that’s gets a little repetitive.
In this one Lloyd, Mark and Olivia could have sat down and hashed out their issues in episode one honestly and frankly. They could have set rules to avoid the outcome. They didn’t for justifiable dramatic reasons which is fine in a bubble. However if the entire show ends up building off every single characters’ personal secrets then it’ll get repetitive. While the Lost characters each has their checkered past as the secret to hide and which taints their sometimes unexpected actions, in FlashForward it’s the visions of the future that’s their personal secret. I see similarities and I suspect they’ll eventually play out similarly.
Where are all the lottery winners? There just seems to be to many plot holes. I have heard the show has been planned for 5 seasons so I hope this gets adressed soon.
Althought I must say I would take Journeyman over this any day, or John Doe for that mater
Well, I’m pretty sure it’d be a simple as the Lottery refusing to hold a drawing that day and casinos closing because of the likelihood of too many winners. Obviously if the players saw the future the gambling authorities would too, ditto sports books and the Stock Exchange. Getting hung up on this seems awfully pedantic.
Well, you don’t have to do it for that day. Write down the winning numbers for January 10th, and then remember to look at them at Flashforward time.
I’m less bothered by the lack of lottery winners than I am by the fact that the skies were full of crashing planes that day in a world where everyone knew the blackouts were scheduled to happen.
I took the New Year’s Eve/Times Square bit to refer to what people were planning for when the FlashForward time occurs in the future, not what actually happened in the FlashForward they saw. I’m assuming they are different.
