For the life of me I can’t find a woman’s shoe that is:
Flat
Comfortable
Works with shorts or a skirt
Is somewhat sandal-like
Does NOT have that wedge between the big and second toe
It’s my holy grail!

Are you philosophically opposed to Crocs? How do you feel about espadrilles?
Sam & Libby flat
Crocs mary janes (I have these)
Less Croc~y looking Croc
Cute espadrilles (but not terribly sandal-like)
Has sandal detail
Another sandalesque option
I don’t know much about women’s shoes (I’m a guy), but may I introduce you to…Gurkees? I’m a sandal guy, and these are some of the lightest, most comfortable sandals I’ve ever worn. They clean up well, and I like the way they look with jeans and shorts. Plus I like 'em because they’re not something you see everyday. I have a pair of the Neptunes in natural beige.
Espadrille with peep toe
Another similar espadrille
Helle is very comfortable
Mostly a sandal but meets your criteria and marked WAY down!
I saw those on vacation several years ago and have been lusting for them ever since! But I’ve never seen them for sale; I saw a woman wearing them and I don’t remember if she told me where she’d gotten them or not.
You really can’t go wrong with Clark’s —
Clark #1
Clark #2
Clark #3 May not want to wear with a skirt
Clark #4 Dressier
Clark #5 Birkinstockish sole
I like these a lot. Softwalk is a comfort brand:
Softwalk Trinidad
Munro shoes are extremely comfortable and come in many flat sandal and sandal-like styles. About 95% of my shoes are Munros.
They are not cheap, however the Nordstrom anniversary sale starts on Friday, and usually includes various Munro styles.
Bella Vita cute sandal; another comfort brand
Crocs Patricia. Very, very comfy, and I think they’re quite decent looking. I got them in several colors.
I’m pretty in love with Hotter Shoes right now.
** Ellen Cherry**, those first espadrilles you linked to - do you have a pair? Are they comfy? (also, do you know where else I could get em - they only have size 5.5 left :()
You might also want to look at Naturalizer sandals. The ones I have are very comfortable, but I can’t find those online- but they make tons of styles and, being a comfort brand, all of them should be as comfortable as mine. I hate that thing between the toes that so many sandals have- it’s very irritating to my tootsies.
No, I don’t have those, but I felt confident in recommending them since other Aigner shoes have been well-made in my opinion.
Here is a link to the same shoe in blue at Zappo’s … but I also googled Eitenne Aigner Urban and got some hits on the red ones in other sizes — Here it is at shoes.com.
I was in Macy’s today and saw some really cute J-41 skimmers. They are incredibly comfortable. They may not work as well with skirts but I haven’t seen every single style they carry. Example J-41
