It doesn’t get any more mundane or pointless than this, but it made me happy, and I want to share!
I got off work a little early today, and for some reason I decided to stop
at the little flea market near by my home. I don’t usually find anything
worth getting excited about, but today, there was a very old (1920’s)
framed and matted print of an English Setter and GORDON SETTER on point !
It needs a good cleaning and a lot of TLC , but there was no way I was
leaving the flea market without it! Here is a link to it:
It is signed Hy. Hintermeister , and titled “Of Royal Blood”. Anyone have
any info on it?
Anybody else find anything good at a flea market lately?
No Flea Markets here. Had you heard of the artist of the print before you saw it? It looks to be in very good condition.
When I lived in Michigan there was the most wonderful flea market in Pontiac MI. It was huge and year round. That was back when flea markets were mostly old junk shops not Cheap Crap from China shops. It had a stuffed two headed calf, a three foot doll that looked exactly like my cousin, an old stop light, so many treasures.
We’re getting a flea market this spring, I can’t imagine it will live up to my memories.
I had never heard of the artist, or seen the print. But I have done a little researching the artist on line today, it’s not from the 20’s like the seller told me, but likely 40’s-50’s. He was a great fan and artist of sporting dogs, evidently, and most of the work I found was involving bird dogs, but I have found NO other Gordons done by him!
The seller at the flea market said she had many old prints she was going to unpack and bring to the flea market to sell today, but got lazy, and this was the ONLY one she had brought. I feel like it was fate, I was destined to find this lovely print!
It is a little sun faded, and the frame is not in the best shape, but the print itself looks like it is in decent shape. I am going to try cleaning the frame up tomorro, and see how good or bad the print’s shape is.
I am SO thrilled to have found it, I never find anything with a Gordon Setter on it!
Well, he’s certainly a popular man, and his work shows up. It’s a print? Well, the frame may be worth more than the print, but I’m betting you got a good deal. http://www.dfn.com/~johavens/hyh1.htm
I couldn’t find that specific print located anywhere on the net I looked, so it might be worth contacting the collector’s club.
My uncle loves his work, mind you.
