I enjoyed it. I’m a former dancer who’s always up for a soapy ballet story. Was pleasantly surprised to see Sascha Radetsky from Center Stage in it.
The artistic director is too much of a cartoon villain, and there’s no way a major ballet company would promote someone so young and inexperienced after one class (not to mention pimping her out). But the dancing was good. It was much darker than I expected.
It sounds like the company is struggling and they mentioned other ballet companies in the city, so I guess we are to assume this little group has to do things “differently.”
I loved the rich girl’s closet.
It was a bit of a stretch for the new girl to become the star after one audition and one practice session, but the series only has eight episodes, so I guess they have to move fast to set up the conflict.
I was a background extra on this show mooooonnnnths ago. Glad to see it’s finally airing! I have no idea which episode I did; have they shown the main guy and the female dancer in a fancy restaurant yet?
Nah, definitely not a dancer, haha. A musician though, although I didn’t get to showcase it in the scene. I’m afraid I didn’t get much gossip, either. I also did an episode of Blue Bloods and had a chance to chat with Bridget Moynahan; that was cool. I work in theatre/film and live in NYC, so it was through those connections, but it’s really not as impressive as it sounds; I didn’t have lines or anything! :o
What was the production like? I heard from someone who had a cameo that it’s a lot of waiting around, and you’re delivered from place to place like a very important package.
I watched and I loved it. I thought the character that dances in the strip club was doing so on the sly. Remember she said “can you keep a secret?” Before going. As for the toenail falling off, I went to nursing school with a girl who studied ballet, she told me that once you start dancing point ( i think that’s what she called it, anyway going up on your toes) you loose toenails. She quit ballet because she was getting injured and was in pain all the time. (She was 10 when she quit). I can’t wait for the next episode!
I missed the part about the lipstick. Was Claire’s roommate pissed that she borrowed her lipstick?
We’re getting an edgy new choreographer and everyone in the company hates Claire. Is this true of most ballet companies? I know there’s egos and competition, but is it normal to completely snub the newbies?
I loved the scene where the dancers are staring like kids into a candy shop at the receptionist chowing down on her hamburger and fries.
I’m of two minds about this show. On the one hand, I like the story and the mystery. On the other, this does not appear to be a realistic portrayal of ballet companies (unless all the stars are expected to prostitute themselves to donors?) and the portrayal of the soldier brother as a potential bad guy bothers me, coming from a military family. Let’s hope he got a dishonorable discharge.
I have a WAG as to what Claire’s secret is, but I’ll hold off on sharing it for a couple more episodes, until I see where the storyline is going.
For a more realistic portrayal of a ballet company, check out 2003’s The Company. It’s a much better look at a dance company’s daily struggles and squabbles. Plus you actually get a sense of camaraderie and professionalism amongst the dancers. Dancers are not immune to petty jealousies, but they also form intense bonds and friendships because they spend so much time together. That’s not really portrayed in a melodramatic soap like this.
Okay, this show is starting to creep me out. At first, I thought Claire was just a brave soul running away from an abusive home, but now I’m seeing she’s got some issues herself.
I’m not sure what the purpose of the strip club scene was for, except to indicate she’s got some issues with her sexuality, or sex, or something.
I hope we don’t get any Flowers in the Attic stuff between Claire and Bryan.
I predict the company is going to get their money from the strip club and Kira is going to overdose on something.
The first episode was good…but I’m not seeing the quality carry through in these later episodes.
The strip club scene was Claire “waking up” to the power of her own sexuality, like the princess in Sleeping Beauty. Claire has zero confidence in herself, she’s being exploited by her artistic director, and her brother has some kind of bizarre power hold on her. I think stripping is becoming her form of empowerment.
The homeless guy’s obsession with Claire is getting a little tiresome.
Sorry, I missed posting about the 11/29 episode, but it doesn’t look like anyone is actively watching this show, so I’ll just throw this out there one last time.
Bryan is gross. Bryan is beyond messed up, and I’m thinking Claire is also pretty messed up.
I knew Sergei was the angel who came through for the company. I wonder if Jessica used some of that money to pay her daughter’s tuition?
The little girls on the yacht were creepy. I hope the note from the one girl just fell into Claire’s gym bag, since she couldn’t find it in her toe shoe.
I am loving the dancing and the flexibility. Poor Mia…she’s got one screwed up mom. But surely dancers know they need to eat healthy? I know they have a weight to maintain, but they work hard and need the fuel.
Kiira is obviously in the marriage for…what? To support her drug habit?
I don’t want to spoil anything, but the whole season is available On Demand so I binged watched it. I just have to say – what a delicious role Paul is. The actor must have a lot of fun with it.
I don’t know about the healthy eating. I thought dancers subsisted on coffee and cigarettes but that may be an outdated stereotype?
Can’t wait till you’ve seen it all so I can discuss openly. Bursting to tell here
