Flooded Midwestern Dopers: report?

How is it where you guys are? I’m in Columbus IN, about 45 miles south of Indianapolis, and we’re on the corner of the flooding. Some parts of the city (such as mine) are fine but others are completely flooded. 65 is in the process of flooding and IN 46 is already impassable. We’re fortunate to be on the southwest side of town; my girlfriend’s family moved to the northeast side about 2 weeks ago and their new house is flooded; her parents were away while the flood started so they’re crashing with us while the SO is with some kindly neighbors on higher ground. Columbus is pretty much shut down; we tried to cross town and get her 2 hours ago and couldn’t and I’ve heard from other neighbors coming in that it’s getting worse. Columbus Regional Hospital is being evacuated.

How is it in other parts of the midwest?

North central Iowa. No major problems in towns close to me, but the rivers are all over their banks and the fields have lots of lakes. It’s pouring now, but we made it through a bunch of tornado warnings that were close by just a few minutes ago.

Streets and highways around Ames and Fort Dodge have been closed, and Des Moines has had problems too, all this week.

None of the weather people have mentioned 1993 yet, but they gotta be thinking about it.

Milwaukee, Got about a half to an inch of water in the basement. Luckily it’s mostly unfinished except for one room. I seem to be on the lucky side. I’ve been watching two of my neighbors coming out their front doors with 5 gallon buckets full of water.

Just north of Des Moines - I’m okay - my house is located on the highest piece of land in my suburb - , but Friday was a ghost town at work due to people out to take care of basement flooding.

St. Louis. Actually, things are pretty OK here, as the urban heat bubble has made the worst stuff skip around the city, but it’s really wet. Somebody got killed in a tornado in Metro East, across the river from me.
The creek out front is high, but it runs through a deep ditch, so I don’t think it will be a problem. I have a suitcase loaded and ready to go, just in case.

West central Indiana here. We’re just about 15 miles north of Terre Haute.
We’re pretty much stuck in the town were we live, as two of the three ways out are flooded, and the third way isn’t looking all that good.

Our daughter went to take some pictures of the flooding around town earlier this evening, and here they are:

Thunder Bay – the roads in the area where I work were flooded, and there were some washouts throughout the region. Power was out a home, so I had to run the place, including the sump pump, on a generator.

Tomorrow I’m wild water kayaking – putting all that water to good use!

Another St.Louis person checking in and yes, this is the wettest spring that I can remember. I haven’t even felt the need to haul out my garden hoses from the garage yet. On the plus side it seems that most of the corn has been planted and they look like happy campers. Also it seems that my front yard mole problem has improved, hopefully the bastards have all drowned.

Sorry about that link, it’s not working. :smack:
I must’ve done something wrong…I always do something wrong.
Try this one:

Some places near me got 4+ inches.
According to the NWS “Numerous rads have been closed and several streams are out of thier banks”
Basement still dry (I did get some flodding last august - but thats when we got 10+ inches - a nearby town set the 24HR Minnesota record)

Madison here. I don’t think I have heard of flooding yet, but we have had some weirdass weather. Apparently a tornado touched down within ten miles of me yesterday while I was on the road to a graduation party. Severe weather moving through on a continuous basis. This is a weird spring, on the heels of a horrible winter.

Dayton Ohio and it’s been the best Spring ever. The weather has been perfect and we’ve gotten a decent amount of rain without a lot of flooding. We had flooding to the North earlier in the year. Tornado’s have taken their usual path in the state but seem to be weaker.

Waiting for the other shoe to drop given the volatility of weather in my area.

Dude … that’s rad!

:stuck_out_tongue:

My FIL just said almost exactly that same thing. He said it’s like the Earth was fed up and attacking us.

Significant flooding to my east

More incoming at me right now, should arrive in 30 minutes. Big storms by radar!

And the waters had just been dropping around my house!

Okay, who do I have to pay to get some of that over here? :frowning:

More evacuations:

Not as bad as last August (I hope!), but still lots of rain

We’re in the clear for awhile, but from what I saw on NEXRAD, there’s a line of storms from Amarillo to Milwaukee – an unbroken line of red. Haven’t seen one like that for awhile.

My husband just got back from town (Webster City) and said there’s flooding in the low-lying neighborhoods near the river – several streets and a mobile home park.
