Florida Congressman proposes amendment to stop Mueller investigation

DOJ order 3915-2017 is APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL COUNSEL TO INVESTIGATE RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE WITH THE 2016 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AND RELATED MATTERS (link).

According to The Hill, the bill was

You may remember Desantis as the guy who said “If there’s a connection between the leaking and the unmasking, I think you have a major, major abuse of power on your hands” during the Susan Rice investigation.

No way is this going to fly, but it doesn’t “stop Mueller’s investigation”. It purports to stop it 6 months after the bill is enacted, which would put us roughly in March 2018.

Right. It doesn’t stop it. It just stops it.

Dunno and maybe. Mueller has rep for thorough, and thorough may require more time. Could be, of course, that the principal miscreants weren’t smart enough to cover their tracks better, and that extra time may not be needed. Bad news, they are corrupt and stupid. Good news, they are corrupt but stupid.

Remember when the Pubbies were dancing on the grave of the Soviet Union, gleefully celebrating how the whole country was being, ah, “privatized”? In lawless capitalism, thugs end up grabbing everything in sight. (At which point, they become quite conservative in their political outlook. They have no problem with promoting justice and equality, so long as it doesn’t mean changing anything…)

It was the ‘end of history’. Nothing has happened since then.

Well, it depends on what the meaning of “stop” is.

That may actually be enough time for him to wrap up his investigation. I hope so. But, IIRC, Star’s investigation of Clinton went on for something like 5 years. And there is nothing that says the funding can’t be extended if need be once the 6 months is up.

They’d have to get 60 votes in the senate to pass it I’d assume. Good luck

Even if it only had to pass with 51, well, Trump’s got some serious enemies in the Senate right now. Starting at the top.

What, am I the only one who read the thread title and thought the Congressman had proposed a bizarrely specific Amendment to the Constitution?

AMENDMENT XXVIII

Section 1. Knock it the hell off, Mueller, or I’ll give you something to cry about.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

You’re the only one.

If a Go Fund Me is required to keep the investigation rolling, I’ll be glad to chip in.

One of the many problems with the bill and its language is that it is so broad, covering anything even relating to the investigation and appointment of Mueller, is that this would also cover prohibiting funding for the prosecution of anyone whose criminal acts were uncovered in the investigation. Since even a federal indictment issued today would not likely be able to go all the way to trial and sentencing phases by March 2018, the bill would very effectively stop the investigation from resulting in anything substantive.
