Follow Apollo 11 in real time with all audio and video

I missed the 50th anniversary of the launch yesterday, but I just learned about this web site, Apollo 11 in Real Time:

It’s one of the more complex web sites I’ve seen. At the moment (50 years ago) Apollo11 is orbiting the Earth.

Amazing work by everyone involved.

It’s July 16th already?

Yeah, that is pretty odd. I clicked on the big “Now” button and got too excited.

Doesn’t matter. Saw it in REAL real time already.

I was fourteen years old the night they landed. As I have mentioned before, I was so keyed up that although I never took my eyes from the TV I could see nothing but blobs of black, white, and gray swirling around. My brain would not process what my eyes took in.

I of course saw it in repeat later. And I went outside, as it was clear here, and marveled that there were people up there, on that moon I could see.

Very cool site! Thanks gaffa! At this very moment the astronauts are asleep and will be wakened in 4-hrs 53-mins (there’s a countdown timer).

I was 8 years old and living in Latham NY. I was in 2nd grade at a brand-new school that had just opened, Latham Ridge Elementary. My teacher was Mrs. Feeney. The Principal was Mr. Alton (Tony) Downer.

I’ll be exploring this site.
