I purchased a collection of fonts, which downloaded with a .zip extension.
I opened up the program PKZIP to extract them, thinking that I could then simply slide the extracted files into my Fonts window and they would be installed.
So, I add all the files into PKZIP, then I click on Extract Files. This moved them to a User file, but they are still in some PKZIP format (there is a 3D boxy icon next to each file, not the typical TT file icon you normally see with fonts).
So, even though they are ‘extracted’, I still cannot install them.
I find that when I right-click on a single file, I get the option to Open; this changes the icon to the TT, and I am then able to slide it into my Fonts file to install it.
But, I cannot do this with more than one file at a time. If I select multiple files, the Open option is not there.
I really don’t want to open 500 files individually; I know there must be some way to open and install them as a group.
Maybe I am misunderstanding what Extract means? (I assumed it means to unzip a zipped file to make it available for installation).
It seems like your saying the collection of fonts is zipped. Then each individual font in that collection is zipped.
So when you unzip the collection, instead of 500 fonts, you expected, you got another 500 zip files.
Is this right?
If so then you have to look at whatever program you’re using to unzip the file. I use 7-zip and I can unzip by individual right clicking or by going into the program selecting a folder and unzip anything zipped that resides in that folder.
I have never been able to just move an extracted font file downloaded from the internet. what I do is extract it to the correct folder and the computer seems to understand it. Not sure why extracting it and moving it over doesn’t work but I have to tell it where to extract it to which in this case is c:windows/fonts. This is in Windows XP using Jzip. I start out as a “save as” when extracting. Hope this helps because it seems like voodoo to me.
Correct, I have never used PKZip to unzip so I can’t give you details, but there should be some method to unzip every thing in the folders at once.
Let me take this step by step, so I understand.
You got a group of fonts all in one folder and that folder is zipped and has a .zip extention.
So you us PKZip to unzip the files.
So now you have a folder with files that also have a .zip extension? If not what is the file extension once you open it?
You can mass install fonts. All you do is put all the fonts in one folder and press CTRL+a. This will highlight them all. Then right click and choose install. I wouldn’t do all 500 at once just in case it might lock the computer or something. Perhaps 50 or 100 at a time.
