font problems in IE (not covered in sticky)

My mom had me working on her computer over the weekend, and while I figured out all the so-called “tough” problems, one simple thing left me stumped.

When she has to type something in online (examples: email addresses, bank password, etc.) the font is too big and the bottom portion of whatever she’s typing appears cut off. It’s not website-specific—I tried logging on to a couple of sites that appear normal on my computer and they all had this same problem.

I tried changing the font size under the control panel display option, as well changing the text size under “view” in Internet Explorer, but no dice.

Her ISP is Juno; she’s running some version of IE (probably 5 or 6) and has Windows XP. Any hints on how to solve this issue?

If she has a wheel mouse, you can hold the Control key down and dial the font size up and down. Sometimes this will happen by accident.

Nope, it’s a touchpad type mouse with two buttons.
