My husband just bought a nearly new 27" iMac, initially planning to re-sell it at a profit. But he’s found a lot to love about it and is now thinking of keeping it – except that he can’t find any way to increase the system font size. I’m not at all familiar with any kind of Mac so I’m hoping some of the experts out there in Doperland can help with this. Is there some way to change the display so he can read it more easily? You would think that with that huge expanse of screen space, there would be some provision for such a thing!
Go to System Preferences (you’ll find it on the doc at the bottom or side of your screen, depending on how you have your screen configured).
Choose ‘Displays’.
Play about with selecting different screen resolutions until you find the one you prefer.
There are several font size choices available in Finder->View->Show View options.
and when browsing in Safari, I find that different pages have different display defaults - rather than tinkering with the settings, I just use “command +” to enlarge the display font, “command -” to shrink the font until I get a look I like and find easy to read.
Or get TinkerTool, a handy free utility that allows you to set a lot of hidden preferences on the Mac. Under “Fonts” it lets you set the font and size used in a variety of standard categories.
Thanks everyone! The System Preferences did the trick and the screen is now easily readable. We’ve printed out all of the responses and will keep them for future reference. You guys are the best!
