It’s been “Canadian Bacon” since I grew up in Virginia in the 1950’s.
It goes back to the late 1800’s in US speech.
Back Bacon is a mainly British expression, so it would be common to Canadians in the early 20th century.
You know, it never really occured to me that it was odd to name a drink made with a Detroit area beverage a Boston cooler. But I agree, they are quite tasty.
Berliners – the pastry made famous by everyone’s favourite misremembered historical oddity. Apparently, in Berlin they’re not called Berliners.
(Also, audio recordings have the audience clapping and cheering after JFK said that; they laugh a few seconds later after he makes an intentional joke.)
