Foods That You Like As Well Or Better When Cold

That reminds me of a kid I grew up with. He refused to cook hot dogs any other way than on the bbq. If that wasn’t an available option he would eat them straight out of the package. It was rough to watch and one of the most illogical things I’ve seen.

I absolutely was going to go with pizza, but it depends on the pizza. There are some that are absolutely terrible cold, and others that are somehow even better than when hot. (Just a few weeks ago I had a rather mediocre pizza, but, in the morning, it just tasted fantastic! The general rule I’ve found is if the pizza is so-so hot, it’s often better cold, and if it’s it’s great hot, it’s only so-so cold. I also find this rule tends to work best on Chicago/Midwestern style thin crust pizza, as opposed to New York or Neapolitan styles. Those I generally don’t like cold.)

Not a fan of cold fried chicken or Chinese food, though (snotty goop, blech).

Meatloaf is the one I look forward to more for the sandwiches than the meat itself. Roast beef is about equally good hot or cold. While I generally like turkey warm, turkey breast I also tend to prefer as sandwich meat.

My favorite would have to be cold meatloaf in a sandwich. Like Chefguy, sourdough bread, but I want some mustard with the mayo, and some cheese (pickles are assumed).

Cold leftover Kraft boxed Mac ‘n’ Cheese is a real winner with me. I usually simply put the saucepan I made it in into the fridge, and then pull that out the next day and consume. Probably with something in the way of a condiment (mayo, sour cream, ranch, etc.)

I’ll concede the mustard, but no cheese for me. Maybe some lettuce for crunch.

Forgot about cold turkey sandwiches, with cold stuffing, mayo and cranberry sauce.

Cold salmon and cream cheese on a bagel.

Cold pizza, of course.

Soft, warm butter. I’d like to keep butter out of the fridge, but Mrs. Shark insists I’ll die if it’s not refrigerated (my family never kept butter cold, none of us have died from it nor raw cookie dough made with softened butter. At least not yet).

I prefer most Greek food cold as well as many Asian foods.

And I like my wimmen hot.

Frozen summer sausage always had a certain appeal to me. Not just cold, frozen. Made for nice gnawing, it did.

I’m over it, mostly.

I love cake after it’s been in the fridge!

Yes, how could I forget cold lo mein. We ordered last night and it was good and hot, but I love the cold leftovers. Lots of posts about cold chicken, I’m all over that, too.

Green beans. Not cooked and leftover cold (bleah), but raw and crisp-crunchy fresh, just to eat the way you’d eat a raw carrot.

Does anyone eat smoked salmon hot?
Back to the meatloaf sandwich: it’s funny, but that is one sandwich I simply can’t stand with more “crunch” to it than the pickles provide. It’s like it should be alll soft and tender.

My local market has a smoker going every day. One of their items is smoked salmon. They sell it in their hot case and it’s good hot. Now it’s hot smoked, not cold smoked like lox.

Second on hot dogs. Back when I could indulge in such salty stuff, half the package would be snacked on cold. After all, they’re fully cooked, so that makes them just cylindrical lunch meat, right? yum

Is it good cold? is my test for good leftover Chinese food, especially sweet and sour chicken.

Fried chicken! I have so many good memories of picnics that featured cold fried chicken that we bought at Popeye’s the previous night! Nom nom nom!

Cold steak, and I love to culturally appropriate cold Mexican food excepting those danged greasy redhots.

Another vote for cold meatloaf on good bread. Just ketchup and lettuce, thanks. I also like cold roast beef cut real thick and eaten by itself. When us brothers were younger we called it “slab”. Add salt and fresh ground pepper to taste. Roll it up if desired. And just as good on a sandwich, although then I add catsup. Cold cake for me too.
