Spicy Chinese food and diet Pepsi.
I mentioned in an old cookie thread how I made ginger snaps with honey rather than molasses. They turned out great.
Pickled okra and squeeze cheese … yes, I was drinking at the time but I found I liked the combo even when not drinking. We were originally putting the squeeze cheese on triscuits but someone suggested trying it on the okra that someone had brought along to snack on.
Pico de gallo on cottage cheese. The pico I get is a little tangy and mixed with the relatively creamy and salty cottage cheese it’s absolutely wonderful, my last mini-meal before bed most evenings.
Home-made tartare sauce instead of butter in mashed potato.
Green pimento olives in scrambled eggs.
Tartar sauce is also great on french fries.
Cherry-flavored brandy and Coca-cola.
But make sure it’s cherry-flavored brandy. I tried it with cherry brandy one time and that was a mistake.
Tuna Salad and Relish.
Also most of the foods I use pepper on now I learned I liked it because I accidentally put pepper on them the first time.
Nobody believes me - I didn’t believe it myself until stuck with these as the only snacking options available to me - but coffee and salt and vinegar crisps (chips to you Americans).
Wensleydale cheese and salted roasted cashews.
Other crumbly white cheeses such as Caerphilly, Cheshire, Lancashire and maybe Feta would probably work, but Wensleydale is really good, because it’s quite sweet.
Snickers and Picante sauce
Only 2 food items we had at the end of a party… but they still tasted good together the next time we tried them sober.
I ‘discovered’ Spinach Salad with Kimchi and then I discovered it has probably bee around for a thousand years.
This reminded me…
There used to be a BBQ place in Seattle that had the most amazing sauce… the secret was that the sauce was actually made using Red Hots.
My family does Campbells tomato soup mixed in with leftover mac and cheese… it’s amazing.
Sushi and stout. Something about all the salty umami unctuousness of salmon and tuna sashimi really makes a nice dark stout sing. Love it.
Chipotle Cheese flavored Cheezits with crunchy peanut butter. Like those addictive little orange peanut butter crackers but better.
Marmite and Sriracha sauce on hot buttered toast
Probably done forever, but new to me: Cooked chopped spinach in a ramekin, with a bit of shredded cheese, and an egg broken over it. Pierce the egg, cook 2 minutes. Heavenly! Can’t get enough. I may try kale.
Thank you! Oh, I’m sorry, I thought you were talking to me. That’s my name, Mr. Wensleydale. ![]()
A fig and brie burger. Amazingly good.
