Ahem. The cereal named for Horatio Magellan Crunch is “Cap’n Crunch”.
Candy corn is delicious, I’ll fight anyone over this. Also not sure if this counts but cereal is better soggy, ice cream is better melted and coffee is better cold.
I wondered if anyone caught that.
Kraft Sandwich Spread. I can make a great tuna salad with this stuff. And, believe it or not, it’s a good substitute for tartar sauce.
Damn straight. Cold brew, on ice, with half and half. No sugar, no flavorings.
Taco Bell. Love that shit. Cheap Beer. It’s all good!
Liver and Onions, with a large quantity of bacon involved.
Biscuits and gravy.
Not those hard crackers the Brits call a biscuit, big, fluffy almost cake like simple things made with flour. Covered in white sauce made from a rue in the same pan, pepper, butter, some sausage or bacon pices if you have it. Simple and delicious.
I like those, too. I buy “old fashioned” oatmeal, not the quick cooking thinner type. I put some berries in a bowl, add some raw oatmeal and some “trail mix” (mostly nuts with some dried fruit, i buy the one with the least sugar), add a lot of milk, and enjoy with a spoon. That plus a cup of tea and some meds is my regular breakfast.
I thought of another thing. I like spam. Yes, the salty fatty pork in a can. Like corned beef hash, it needs to fried until it’s crispy. It’s good on pizza, too.
Since it’s the season for, and in parallel with the herring thread, I’ll add the Norwegian favorite: lutefisk. In these parts, people stand in long lines or buy tickets far in advance for the once-a-year lutefisk super at the local VFW or Lutheran church (it’s always a Lutheran church).
I know that lutefisk is popular, having participated in such supers many times. But beyond the obligatory bite of lutefisk, soaked in melted butter, I only ate the ham or the Swedish meatballs.
I recently tried making biscuits and gravy using Red Lobster cheddar biscuits. It was a bit of a salt overload, but otherwise dang tasty.
In Seattle there’s a restaurant called “Biscuit Bitch”, which I’ve only made it to a few times since they’re only open during breakfast hours, that specializes in biscuits & gravy topped with all sorts of other things - for example, the “Smokin’ Hot Bitch” comes with shredded cheddar, jalapenos, and a grilled hot link.
I generally can’t stand American cheese. JIB tacos are the only exception.
The first time I went to Chicago I got a stuffed pizza from Giordano’s. The cheese layer was about an inch thick. I’ll stick to the thin crust when I visit in the future.
Those are all good additions! I’ll have to try them. I don’t use a lot of sugar replacement products, but I do use a little brown sugar Swerve on my raw oats, along with a sprinkle of salt. It’s a favorite before bedtime snack if I feel a little peckish. The oats with milk are satisfying without making me feel overfull.
I like Spam too. Fry it up, put it on some toast, add a couple of dill pickle slices and some deli mustard, and you’ve got a tasty sandwich.
You might also try Pequod’s. Pan pizza is not quite as much of a cheese bomb as stuffed.
I went with Rosati’s last time I visited and I really enjoyed it. I haven’t had a chance to get an authentic Chicago deep dish yet, but I make deep dish at home (I’m in the middle of making one right now, actually!) and I do a not-too-thick layer of mozarella on the bottom and a liberal sprinkling of parmesan on the top.
My in-laws are proud Norwegians. Christmas is the traditional time for them to eat lutefisk. I find that even tho it smells vile it’s really almost tasteless. I liken it to unflavored gelatin with bones to pick out. I’ll usually have a small dollop of it on my plate and eat it just to be polite. Eating Christmas lutefisk is more than a tradition, it’s almost of a rite of passage with them. It’s okay if you don’t have any but you can expect a good-natured chiding. I look at it being good form to eat at least a little bit of lutefisk. It’s not too bad as long as you don’t think of how it’s made. And there’s always ham and other stuff to fill up on. .
Yep, good choice but at least you pick the decent hot dog.
With good buttered bread it is a comfort food.
Now, I can only eat Hebrew National baloney.
And now, just to show off, here’s that pizza I’ve been working on;
It took four hours and I’m covered with flour, but it was worth it.
Spaghetti-Os with meatballs. Got me through chemo.
Domino’s pizza. Got me through chemo.
Hot dish.
I am addicted to powdered hot cocoa mix, ramen with paprika and red pepper flakes, and Crofters strawberry preserves.
Velveeta - nothing makes a better grilled cheese sandwich.
Roma frozen pepperoni pizza - it’s the cheapest frozen pizza. I think it’s still under $3. I love the crust.
White bread - the softer the better.
