You’re an amazing father. What a gift you are giving.
Happy Fathers Day.

I think your take on time travel is considerably more engaging than anything that the people behind Star Trek: Enterprise ever came up with. I mean, unless you’ve also got Space Nazis, in which case I take it all back. You don’t have any Space Nazis, do you?
Just…wow…I mean…that’s amazing…
No, no space Nazis. Closest I came to heavy-handedness was a Kantian dilemma — I was trapped in Scylla’s cave, surviving on an air pocket made up of the last breaths of dying men killed by a magical beast. Powerful magic, but evil in nature. Could have saved me, but giving in to evil ‘just that once’ is a never-ending path; there’s always a reason/temptation. Got saved by another deus ex – a sword wielded by Alfonso X. Why him? Because another thing I had as a kid was a pair of replica swords, one of them with his name on it and hooray for the Internet! It’s in the basement wrapped in faux leather at the moment. Maybe next year? Maybe have him do some writing about all this, wrap up the notes in the sword and give it to him at 16 or so.
Up at four this morning wrapping up the final steps!
Hope you have a GoPro.
I think you’ve got the Good Dad stamp in your Life Passport at this point. How fun is that?
I was excited that I knew how to navigate the Darth Vader Reveal in ESB.
I can’t wait for the updates.
OMG! Extraordinary!

A lot of Dads talk the talk about being fun with their kids. About having fun with their kids.

Subscribing to thread…
Wow! That’s too great for words.
Come on, dude, we’re dying here. How did it go?
Mother of God did he find the knight???
Tell me you filmed this and it worked. Please post!
We really should have heard from him by now. I think the Banatarks got him. God help us all.
Well, since he’s a time traveler he can come back and post about it yesterday.
Good morning!
Couldn’t post last night; some time laws you just don’t violate (like breaking away from Father’s Day to post).
Of course nothing goes completely as planned. After a string of relatively good days, Mrs. Devil had a pretty bad spell that lasted from the morning through late afternoon, so some things were a little compressed.
But damn if it didn’t work out – from the end “it was you!” to the map’s mystical appearance to following the path to finding the knight to the magic of it all.
I figured we were pretty much on the border of credulity; it would been a lot stronger last year and probably impossible next year, but it really sunk in after a while. Biggest tell was later in the evening.
The knight is thin tin with some parts that have small gaps (the metal plumes and the face plate). He’s currently standing in the foyer between the parlour and the den. When I walked by, I noticed my footsteps – non stompy footsteps – caused him to make a very light, longish buzzing rattly brrrrraaannnn that faded off. I called him over to hear, and it buzzed to his mini-footsteps. “Is he trying to say hello?” The look of wonder and full belief was greater than any Santa visit we’ve made.
Did catch a lot on video, but now need to figure out how to edit it down to reasonable lengths. I have Windows Live Movie Maker and minimal experience, so it’s going to take a bit of effort. In the meantime, in honour of the Dope I took a 34-second video of our cat(his name is “Ash; Housewares”) this morning.
For fun, I’ll also post a picture of our setupfor music festivals (don’t forget Fest Van). The front of his cart is a comfy nest for him to sleep in (there’s a sunshade and rain protection if needed), the back is half filled with gear for us and other families (first aid, bailing wire and duct tape, etc.) and half filled with toys, balloons and balloon animals, giveaways; it’s so much fun to watch him give out things like leis, refractive glasses and pinwheels to kids of all ages (it being a music festival some ‘bigger’ kids can be pretty appreciative). If you ever see our totem (first pic; stands about 13’ tall), stop by to say hello!
Need to run — will post relevant video when I manage editing…
Context for the “bad spell,” but didn’t want to cast shadows on the thread.
That’s wonderful! What a great memory it will be.
And I agree with your spoiler…
I can’t wait to see the video! And my thoughts and best wishes to your wife.
Y’know, as soon as I saw a link to “fest van”, I started thinking “wait, wasn’t it Rhythmdvl who painted his vehicle with chalkboard paint, a few years back?”. Apparently, yup.
