For all Tori Amos fans.....

There seem to be alot of you here and the anthology just came out so…
All you Tori Amos fans, what is your worst/best Tori Amos song???

Plus I was in serious danger of hijacking that other thread if i didn’t do it.

Spark
Precious Things
Happy Phantom
Leather
Pandora’s Aquarium
Raspberry Swirl
Bells For Her
Icicle

Silent All These Years. It takes me right back to being fifteen.
Cool on Your Island (think that’s the title)
Raspberry Swirl
Horses
Blood Roses

She has just too many great ones…

Precious Things
Yes, Anastasia
Honey
Here. In My Head
Muhammed My Friend
Jackie’s Strength

I really don’t like ‘China’. There are other songs of her’s that I just skip past; I don’t know their titles. Since all of her songs are so special, it’s not surprising that sometimes they completely miss me.

Best/Worst Album would be an interesting topic

Um, are those bests or worsts?

Tori Amos has fans? Well, I guess even the deaf need thier heros.

She told me she loved me like a brother. She was from Arkansas, hence the Joy!

Best (all classics in my book):

Amber waves
China
Gold dust
I can’t see NY
Silent all these years
Strange
Time time time
Winter

Worst:
Difficult to choose. Maybe her version of Heart of gold.

Best album: Scarlets walk

gatopescado, why did you click on this thread?

Worst: Three-quarters of Strange Little Girls. She would have been better off recording some of the covers she is famous for doing live only, like “Landslide” or “For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her”.

Best: Silent All These Years or Crucify.

Best: Silent All These Years, Crucify, God, Here In My Head.

I remember playing Tori Amos tunes when I was a DJ in a strip club years ago, I couldn’t for the life of me understand how or why her music would fit into that scenerio. I do remember looking at the CD cover and thinking, this woman is prettier than the one who is dancing to her music. But that was days gone by and gladly left there, in the past.

I’m not yet a Tori Amos fan, but what album of her’s will convince me that she can be as good as Kate Bush or Bjork?

Best:
Winter
Leather

Worst:
Professional Widow (Armand’s Star Trunk Funkin’ Mix)

Bippy, give Little Earthquakes a try.

Thanks Tusculan

I usually try to restrict myself to a single answer in these favorite song threads, but since no one else seems to be…

Best: Playboy Mommy, Winter, God, A Sorta Fairytale, Cornflake Girl
Worst: Happiness is a Warm Gun

Album: From the Choirgirl Hotel best, Strange Little Girls worst

My all time favorite Tori Amos song has to be Tear in Your Hand. My least favorite was the cover she did of Eminem’s “Stan”.

It’s difficult to compare her to either. I recall her being referred to as “the American Kate Bush” at one time.

Her music tends to be edgier than Kate’s (sorry, I don’t anything about Bjork). Kate tends to go toward the romantic/literary end of the spectrum while Tori seems to want to jam her message into your chest and twist it a little.

I’m a big fan of both, but I like Kate just a little more.

The only thing about Tori’s live performances that I don’t care much for, especially when she covers other artists, is that the covers tend to all sound alike.

To answer your question, though, try Little Earthquakes and from the choirgirl hotel. These should give you an idea of what she’s all about.

Best Album - Little Earthquakes
Worst Album - Strange Little Girls

The problem with SLG was that she was trying to do a cover album with a concept (songs written about women by men) and it just fell flat, IMHO. The only song I really like is the title track. Everything else just puts me to sleep. I know I said “Leather” was my least-favorite song in the other thread, but I think I have to change my answer to match that of kung fu lola: most of Strange Little Girls.
Best songs in no particular order (hard to narrow them down!):
[ul]
[li]“Hey Jupiter (Dakota Version)” - I’m glad they picked that version for the video.[/li][li]“A Case of You” - Joni Mitchell cover[/li][li]“Mary” - The version she did for her new “greatest hits” album is even better than the original.[/li][li]“Graveyard” - only 55 seconds long, but I love it.[/li][li]“Bachelorette”[/li][li]“Cooling”[/li][li]“Upside Down”[/li][li]“Silent All These Years” - The version from her MTV Unplugged special is the best[/li][li]“Glory of the '80s”[/li][li]“Black Dove (January)”[/li][li]“Pretty Good Year”[/li][li]“Mother”[/li][/ul]

I’m glad people are panning ‘strange little girl’ I had tried that one in the record store last time I wanted to see if I could get into Tori Amos (nice dirty thought … ), chose that one at random and didn’t like it at all.

A little hijacking here.

What’s “Silent All These Years” about? I love the song, but I can’t make out what it’s trying to say.
