He is a Cornish Rex - what look like stripes in the pictures are actually waves in his fur. I keep expecting him to go airborne with those ears.
He was given as a birthday gift to the granddaughter of a friend of mine. After about 6 months daughter in law threw him outside because “he talks too much.” My friend said it was the only time in her life she has repossessed a birthday gift. Her cats are all female and just wouldn’t tolerate him, so I am now his proud servant.
He may get a name change, though. Feel free to submit interesting names. I’m already considering “Yoda”.
I got a new kitten today, too! I wanted to start a thread but I don’t have a digital camera and I didn’t want Dopers 'round the world screaming for my blood because I said “kitten” and couldn’t back it up with pics.
He’s beautiful! How anyone could throw a cat outside just because he talks is beyond me…our Ted would never be allowed in if we waited for him to be quiet.
When will the existing cats get to meet the new one? Do you think they’ll take to him okay? He’s lucky that he’s going to such a great new home.
pinkfreud, his coat is amazingly soft - almost like rabbit fur. There is almost no undercoat, and the fur is very short.
stretch, the meeting won’t take place face to face for about a week. He’ll spend the first few days in our bedroom, which is already equipped with a litterbox for overnight snuggles. I want to let him get used to his new people first. Then he’ll be spending time here in the office with me, with the door closed. Smelling each other under the door, getting used to each other without being face to face helps to reduce the actual mfffff pffft when they actually meet. I will post a daily diary if anyone is interested.
My two cats are just regular old alley cats, but I’ve always liked rex cats. He’s a beauty. Glad that you were able to take him in.
I am surprised the noise bothered her that much. I have a cat who loves to make a constant whiny cry for attention/food (not sure if it’s inborn or if his previous owners let him “train” them with that noise). Yeah, sometimes it gets on my nerves a little, but it’s definitely not so bad that I would banish him from the house because of it. Then again, since I’m also a bird fancier, I can’t imagine any noise a cat could make getting to me after some of the truly ear-splitting noise I’ve heard macaws and cockatoos make.
I once tried to convince a client with a new Rex kitten to name him Eddie Puss Rex.
We recently saw an injured Cornish Rex, he never stopped talking the entire time we were treating him. The owner said that was normal for him.
