Browsing pictures of cats from our local shelter, we came across a nine week old male that is all black except for a white chest and white feet. It looks like he’s wearing a tuxedo. The shelter named him Tux.
We’re looking for a companion for our 7 month old all black cat named Magic.
Tux just got neutered today, so the shelter wants us to come by this weekend to see how we get along with him. If we do, then he ours to adopt.
I’m not too keen on the name Tux. We were thinking of well known butlers, Lurch, Alfred from Batman…etc. I can’t think of a name that clicks with me that would fit a black tuxedo wearing cat.
By the way, the woman at the shelter said he’s a feisty little guy, but aren’t all kittens?
Anyway name suggestions? You Dopers are usually good at this.
I’d probably name him Bond. Enjoy your new cat!!
Skid-mark
Jeeves.
Oops, maybe not.
Maybe find a connection with penquins? ('cause they wear tuxes, too).
Cats like an y or iiii sound in their names and tend to respond better then.
Instead of Tux, Linux.
In case you don’t know, Tux is the Linux mascot.

“Askit”.
As in, “What is your cat’s name?”
“Askit.”

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter. It isn’t just one of your holiday games. You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter when I tell you, a cat must have three different names.
When in doubt, go for some Python. Monty Python, that is:
I think either will do nicely
I think we need a pic in order to allocate a proper name. Although, Cadbury might fit.
Maybe something that goes with Magic, like Spellbound or Spellbinder or Wizard? Or a famous magician like Houdini or Blackstone, etc.
That’s it. This one wins.
If you were a Bloom County fan, you could name it “Opus”. Frankly, if I had a mostly black cat, I’d name it “Snowball”.
Mr. Bond
Woodhouse (from Archer)
Mr. Fancypants
This may help:
I’m partial to Beeker, and Ruggles.

Fido or Rover or Spot. Somewhere, there ought to be a cat named Fido or Rover or Spot.
Squee! I like Pengy. Or maybe Pengo.
I’ve always thought “Mayhem” pairs euphoniously with “Magic”, but perhaps it doesn’t suit the tux (though it almost universally suits kittens). “Myth” could work as well, but might engender confusion as to whether or not one has a lisp. “Mystery”, maybe?
Blackstone is a fine name for the magician route.
