So…on New Year’s Eve, we came home to find a kitty outside in the 2 degree below weather. Initially, we thought his “people” were maybe just out for the night, and we set him up to sleep in our garage.
Next day, poor little fuzzy guy was still out there cold and hungry, so we took him in again. Come to find out, the people had moved and abandoned him.
This cute fuzzy fellow who showed up on New Year’s Eve in his black and white tux ready to party needs a name.
We thought of:
Bond…James Bond (he was out there surviving on his own, and came dressed to kill)
Romeo…because he’s very much a lover boy.
We aren’t sure about either of those, and want some creative input as to other possibilities. The Mr. and I have decided to put it to the Dope to help us name him. After all…it takes a village to name a cat.
I vote for “Ahab,” because his one white rear leg looks like Captain Ahab’s whalebone peg leg. Arrr! (I used to have a kitty named Starbuck – also from Moby Dick, not the coffeehouse chain or Battlestar Galactica.)
He’s going to be about a $600 stray cat. Already over $200 to get him checked for FIV/FELV (so we don’t expose our other two), and to get him de-wormed (yes, poor little guy came with cooties in his patootie from being left outside). Also got a broken fang that’s in danger of abcessing, so the antibiotics and the dental work are about another $400. Ow…
He’s a real sweetie though, so we think he’s worth it.
What a sweetie! The first name that came to my mind while looking at him is Smudge. He looks like somebody to me, but the name just isn’t coming to mind. He also kind of looks like he’s playing the piano there.
Ah, we’re gettin’ off cheap though. We were just recently in New Orleans and met a cat named Bob who was a rescue from hurricane Katrina…and ironically, another black and white cat. The guy who picked him up said he had spent about 3k to get Bob well. Bob was currently working off his debt as the greeter in his rescuer’s bookstore. And had eben made “Employee of the Month”
Well since he is sort of a baby New Year I did some digging but it appears there is no “official” name for the baby new year other than the name Happy in the Christmas special Rudolphs Shiny New Year.
I did find that the pictures of the baby New Year that were on the cover of The Saturday Evening post for many years were created by J.C. Leyendecker who was a sort of a mentor of Norman Rockwell.
