I put up some posts about tolerance on the thread Falcon pointed to; now I think I’m out of there again.
As I said back on p.1 of this thread, nearly five weeks ago, “I read a few of the [LBMB] posts, and concluded that it might be easier to persuade a brick wall than to talk with that group.” I think we’ve all reaffirmed how true that is. (And I sure wish I hadn’t ignored my better judgment; boy howdy, have I wasted a lot of time and energy banging my head against that wall.)
Assuming they are Christian (and yes, I do realize that could be a baseless assumption), they are not praying against you but for you. As RT might likely point out, it is only natural that they do so.
“Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in Heaven.” — Jesus
“It is lucky for rulers that men do not think.” — Adolf Hitler
Soulfrost: Ok, I did it. Now, whaddaya gonna give me?
(I told them I’d pray for more tolerance and understand of message board users so they stop chasing good, intelligent, kind, Christian people away from this board.)
Libertarian, I must protest the widening of the definition of love to mean Whatever we deem to be the TRUTH shall be put upon others, and whatever means we use to further the TRUTH shall be called love. The message board referd to is not open to ideas, and those who try to introduce ideas different from their own are called tools of the devil, or even Satan Himself! Right now one these “loving” people is trying to exorcise the board through a massive prayer-in, with much support and little, if any, opposition. They are not much on personal philosophy, but usually fall back on biblical verses, the more the better.
I can understand falling into such a pit by accident, but I cannot imagine hanging around in it.
I don’t know if I can help, but you might try quoting Matthew 7:6 to them: “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.”
With that, you can play off the whole pot and kettle thing for a while.
“It is lucky for rulers that men do not think.” — Adolf Hitler
Matthew 7:6 is one of their favorites when they don’t want to talk to you. You should see what they do the “I come not to bring peace, but with a sword” cite. I’ve seen it used to excuse some outsight nastiness.
Very odd. The index of topics says there was a message posted at 1:06. But the last one I see is Gaudere’s from 12:36. I’m hoping that my posting of this message will clear things up…
They’re admitting it’s a problem and something should be done, but I sure wish they’d do more than pray. I know that the saying “God helps those who help themselves” doesn’t actually appear in the Bible, but isn’t supposed to be true nonetheless?
