I don’t. I do think there’s a substantial minority of religionists and others in GD who favour moving the goalposts to what I’m sure they see as “more polite” discourse, but in fact is a stifling of dissent. And yes, I think that needlessly inhibits fundamentalists and New Agers and other religionists too. Mod people for breaking the actual rules in GD, by all means. But this constant Junior-Modding-by-Pitting of GD gets a little old. Sure, Pit people for specific lies (something you can’t confront them about in GD anymore), or blatant trolling (which DT doesn’t do, Junior Mods.) But a thread like this - where mswas wouldn’t debate DT because of previous experience (and took oh-so-many posts to explain this, rather than just posting this Pitting and then ignoring him and others) - which leads to a pile-on by people who weren’t even in the debate, that’s just stupid.
Same goes for regular Pittings of lekatt, FWIW. I can’t recall any religionists who get Pitted regularly now, but I’m sure there have been some. Hell, I’m sure I’ve broken my above suggested reasoning myself, but I still don’t like it.

He IS a Troll. Everyone knows where he stands. He only enters religious debates so he can say, “All religion is equally stupid.”, that’s trollish behavior no matter how you slice it. Every board has someone who is able to be a complete and total asshole and get away with it. Something about their untermenschen status confers a sense of pity from others who view any sort of censure upon him as a form of ‘kicking the puppy’. This sort of troll ALWAYS plays on that sympathy and uses it to their advantage. They are emotional vampires. That Der Trihs likes to antagonize people in GD, and won’t come to the board designed for trolling is telling. He can dish it but he can’t take it.
He calls religious belief mental illness, aka, if you believe in God, you’re stupid. So he calls people idiots to their faces all the time, but only couches the terms. Linty Fresh The fantasy is precisely where it is. A man like Der Trihs cannot function in a social environment so all he has is criticism for social institutions, be they religious or governmental. He thinks that violence is a function of religion. Unlike a real adult he can’t accept that violence is a function of interpersonal relationships and conflicting desires. He’s not worthy of engaging in a religious discussion because he cannot see religion, or the state for that matter as attempts to reconcile the conflicting desires of billions of people.
He is a middle-aged man with a philosophy developed at the level recent High School graduate.

I’ve never been pitted for expressing my atheist views, IIRC. But then, like I said, I’m more nuanced than DT. And no, that’s not code for “less ballsy”. I really don’t subscribe to memetics with the fervour he does. And on the whole, if I’m in the mood for religious talk, I’d generally much prefer the talks with Liberal or SentientMeat, or Biblical historicity with Diogenes than any thread where the likes of mswas, lekatt or theraindog etc. are likely to be doing their witnessing.
Outside of defending DT in the Pit, you’re not likely to find me “ranting and raving”. I prefer discussion when I’m in GD. Unless someone is outright making shit up, and nowadays even then you can’t call them on it.
