For men wearing sweaters what is more fashion appropriate?

At work in the Fall and Winter, I regularly wear sweaters over a collared shirt. Usually I wear v-neck sweaters. I normally leave the collar of my shirt inside the sweater, but I have seen lately some other men, that wear sweaters, pulling their collars out, ala 1970’s look. What is the current fashion? Am I missing some new trend?

Leaving the collar in can look stuffy depending on the particular shirt and sweater. But I don’t think guys leaving it out looks 70s unless the collar is oversized or they really splay it out a lot. I’m 23 and I know no guys personally in my age bracket that leave their collars in, but they also don’t make them look 1970s. But I don’t think it’s a big deal, what matters more is if your sweater and dress shirt fit properly and are attractive.

I always take my collar out, if not for looks but because it is more comfortable. The fact that it looks better is just a fringe benefit.

Collar out. I hate the feeling of a sweater creeping up over my collar. I don’t really care how it looks - it’s reasonably presentable, and that’s plenty for me.

Collar in for me, but I’m an old fogey (40!). Get off my lawn!
