For Ross, or other Glasgow dwellers- Garscadden district?

Over here Ross mentioned that he lives in Glasgow. I’ve been trying to find information on a Garscadden district(?someone told me it’s a district-I’m not sure though) in the Glasgow area.

The reason I ask is because my family is of Scottish descent, and our last name is very close to Garscadden.

Any information, links, whatnot that you can pass along would be fantastic and a huge help.

Garscadden is in the west end of Glasgow, to the north of the River Clyde, bordered by Yoker, Scotstoun and Knightswood. It’s mainly residential. It was originally the seat of the late Donald Dewar, who was the First Minister of the Scottish Parliament, although later he was elected for Anniesland.

What sort of stuff do you want to know?

Do you mean Cowcaddens? That’s an area of Glasgow (home of Glasgow Caledonian Uni, I think).

You can search more about Glasgow at http://www.glasgow.gov.uk, or search Scottish births, deaths and marriages records via http://www.origins.net/GRO/.

Ah. Obviously not Cowcaddens, then. The links may still be useful, though.

You might also find the following links of some use.

The Donald Dewar connection probably is the only fact of interest about the place.

Well, my family’s has a joke that it’s a red-light district. I guess that’s not true, eh?

Mainly, I was trying to find out that it does actually exist, and also trying to see if there was anything famous/notorious about the area. I didn’t phrase my question particularly well. Yesterday was kind of a dingbat day.

I suppose there’s not, but thanks Iguana Boy and mattk.

It does exist, but it’s not the red-light district, that’s for sure!

Give me a couple of days, and I’ll check if there have been any famous murders or such like.

Well… there y’go.
