For the Dachshund Lovers

Continuing the discussion from Our poor dogs first acid trip:

They can be such a mystery, can’t they?

I once accidentally pulled out a toenail while on a walk with my late beloved Lewis. A dog barked from behind the fence and, startled, he jumped in front of me. I knew I’d stepped on the paw a little bit, but he never made a peep and I didn’t realize the toenail was pulled out. We carried on with our walk for another several blocks.

It wasn’t until I got him home and picked him up that I realized what had happened. His whole undercarriage looked like Freddie Kreuger had gotten hold of him. Off we rushed to the vet. I have some precious pics of him with his bandaged owie. It grew back out and he was fine, but same thing: He never made a sound.

Yeah, dogs can be very stoic. It’s just that it was not typical for Shanni to be stoic.

Well, Bayliss had a toenail that was constantly breaking and cracking(he is of mixed heritage, so has multi-color nails. This one was milky white)
Before we had it amputated, he would bump it and limp for a week. It was glued often. Cut very short after softening up with this nasty cream. But grew back every time brittle and breaking.

He was the biggest baby about it. It must’ve hurt. Because he’s usually such a reserved guy. Not stoic, so much.
Any way all healed up for a couple months. I break my foot. I’m limping and clomping around in a boot.
Automatically, he starts limping too.

Vet said dogs often do that in sympathy for you.
Ain’t that sweet?
