Well the new Muppets movie is getting the overkill treatment - the ad campaign plugging their “comeback” movie has been pretty relentless. But, hey, it’s the muppets! With the new movie about to be released, I thought it’d be a good time to do a thread on all things muppet-y and remind us all just why they were so endearing in the first place. So, post your favorite muppet bits here - from any thing - the show, the movies, specials, ads, “the Street”, etc.
If I had the time I’d just go through picking out scenes, there’d be a lot, but I guess I should start with another obvious one, Turn the World Around.
Seeing as it is Thanksgiving, I feel obliged to add a Swedish Chef vs. a Turkey bit. I think there were a few of these. In fact, what I was hoping to post was the bit where the Chef was chasing the turkey around the kitchen with a meat cleaver. After a couple of laps around the counter-top island, the Chef slips. The Turkey manages to pick up the cleaver and then chases him around the kitchen!
A large part of the brilliance of the Muppet Show is what they managed to get away with back then…
When Marty Feltman hosted, with the Sesame Street gang as a bonus. Funniest moment was Marty commenting how much he likes Cookie Monster… must be the eyes!
<======= (I like to call this smilie “Kermit” BTW.)
I just saw the movie, and I have a new favorite Muppet Memory: Sam the Eagle, Rowlf, Fozzie, and Beaker singing a barbershop quartet version of “Smells like Teen Spirit”.
I loved the old show, and hope the movie is good. A relatively recent bit I kinda like is Kermit and Sandra Bullock doing “Phenomenon” (Manamana).
ETA: I just re-watched it - damn, she was hot!
