For the love of felt puppets

Well the new Muppets movie is getting the overkill treatment - the ad campaign plugging their “comeback” movie has been pretty relentless. But, hey, it’s the muppets! With the new movie about to be released, I thought it’d be a good time to do a thread on all things muppet-y and remind us all just why they were so endearing in the first place. So, post your favorite muppet bits here - from any thing - the show, the movies, specials, ads, “the Street”, etc.

Some of my personal favs…

Robin the Frog & Sweetums (from the early 70s special “the Frog Prince.”)

Barbecue by Emmett Otter’s Jug Band. (Not to be outdone by…)

the Riverbottom Nightmare Band (would love to see a “battle of the bands” skit between them and Dr. Teeth’s Electric Mahyem.)

Mahna Mahna (Do DOOO do doo doo)

and my single favorite Muppet Show bit - Gonzo the Great’s Motorcycle Stunt

Ode to Joyby Beaker (it’s now a Christmas ornament).

Zero Mostel’s fears. His index finger is almost as lively as any of the Muppets.

I loved Roger Moore singing “If I Could Talk To The Animals” as a kid.

An obvious choice, but it is one of my favorite things ever: Kermit singing The Rainbow Connection at the beginning of The Muppet Movie.

If I had the time I’d just go through picking out scenes, there’d be a lot, but I guess I should start with another obvious one, Turn the World Around.

Danny Boy (can’t watch videos at work, hopefully the link goes to the right place).

That was excellent, but from the same episode I’d choose
The Banana Boat Song

Dust In The Wind by Beaker.

Popcorn by the Swedish Chef.

And of course, Bohemian Rhapsody.

Peter Sellers on The Muppet Show. “There was a real me, but I had it surgically removed.”

And all of Muppet Treasure Island.

Alice Cooper on the Muppet Show!

Not a song, but my favorite Cookie & Kermit bit.

Cookie & Kermit busting mad rhymes.

Swedish Chef making donuts.

And a more recent Swedish Chef: Cårven Der Pümpkîn.

Seeing as it is Thanksgiving, I feel obliged to add a Swedish Chef vs. a Turkey bit. I think there were a few of these. In fact, what I was hoping to post was the bit where the Chef was chasing the turkey around the kitchen with a meat cleaver. After a couple of laps around the counter-top island, the Chef slips. The Turkey manages to pick up the cleaver and then chases him around the kitchen!

A large part of the brilliance of the Muppet Show is what they managed to get away with back then…

Remember to turn the captions on for this one. They’re the best part.

Born to add.

When Marty Feltman hosted, with the Sesame Street gang as a bonus. Funniest moment was Marty commenting how much he likes Cookie Monster… must be the eyes!

:stuck_out_tongue: <======= (I like to call this smilie “Kermit” BTW.)

I just saw the movie, and I have a new favorite Muppet Memory: Sam the Eagle, Rowlf, Fozzie, and Beaker singing a barbershop quartet version of “Smells like Teen Spirit”.

Well worth the price of admission.

Which was NOT a joke.

I loved the old show, and hope the movie is good. A relatively recent bit I kinda like is Kermit and Sandra Bullock doing “Phenomenon” (Manamana).
ETA: I just re-watched it - damn, she was hot!
