two thousand zero zero party over, oops, out of time
gonna party 'cause my join date’s nineteen ninety-nine
1999
Started with the AOL boards and was quite active there (not sure when I started there).
Then joined here in May of 1999. My old user name was #909 apparently. Due to some issues with the firewall at work, I took several years off.
When I came back, I could not remember my password and no longer had access to the email I had used to sign up, so I had to create a new user name.
I managed to join before Y2K destroyed all this. Real shame how our civilization completely folded just a few minutes after midnight.
Me. 05-24-2000.
GET OFF MY LAWN!!! ![]()
I’m going on 14 years . . . wow, time flies when yer having fun!
Was so long ago that I don’t even remember signing up… ![]()
All you newbies who joined in years starting with 2…
I’m another who lost their first handle in TWOOMC and while I continued to read I didn’t sign up again until 2002. It’s been a crazy 18 years.
Same time frame – I lurked for years (even after I joined… probably almost a decade, but who’s counting).
I learned a lot while lurking. About the world, and about this community, which is probably why I didn’t say anything stupid at first.
I really miss some of the oldsters (for instance, I still read some of Otto’s posts that I saved, and I occasionally relive his meltdown and suicide-by-mod).
I signed up when I was 4.
I discovered the board in 2001 and lurked for years before signing up. It’s been a fun ride.
First found the Dope on AOL. I was the a host for the chat when Opal made her first appearance.
I’m not a 99er, but I have known y’all longer than I’ve known my husband or my kids. Also, I’ve been away for a while. Nice to be back.
Great to have you back!
Also, note that with a join date of September, 2000, you are a member of a very exclusive club.
Hard to believe I rank among the oldest members, but it speaks to the depth and continual challenge to the mind this board provides.
I used to be active on LJ, but I became gun-shy after losing my job over my blog. FB has since lost its worth to me and I hardly post there anymore. At least here, I don’t have to use my real name, but I can use my real voice among the nerds, smarties, and skeptics. SDMB is and has always been my Facebook.
Me too!
I find it amazing that there are a few folks who have been here for 18 years, have very few posts yet still managed to find this thread and post to it.
How does that happen?
It was the phrase “old geezers” and the promise of a free puppy if you posted. It was a limited time offer only though; once the ball got rolling, I realized we ran out of puppies, and halted the offer.
Tripler
We’d considered offering free hugs, but soon realized that we hadn’t invented trans-monitor-teleportation just yet.
Lurkers, Lurkers everywhere…
