…get a fucking life. I posted there instead of starting a new thread because I knew there were dozens of threads on the subject and didn’t want to add to the pool (because inevitably, when someone DOES make a new thread, two or three people will come in and post links to the OLD threads, giving the hint that the OP should have just added to the other discussions instead of making a new thread), and just went for the most recently active thread to post in. C K Dexter Haven indicated that a few people had reported the thread; why? Because I posted something extremely vulgar? Because I posted some sort of illegal information? NO. Of course not. Because some people have sticks so far up their ass that they watch and wait for someone to post in an older thread so they can fire off a report to the mods. OH NOES!!! SOMEONE WILL POST IN AN OLD THREAD THAT I DON’T HAVE ANY OBLIGATION TO EVER OPEN AND READ!
GET OVER IT. Go report something worthwhile, assholes, like someone spamming the forums or advocating child porn or something like that.
You ire is misplaced. It doesn’t matter how many people report a thread for whatever reason; it’s NOT going to get closed unless a moderator decides that it should be. Reporting a thread only has the effect of calling a moderator’s attention to a possible problem. What action is taken or not take is entirely at the discretion of the responding moderator. Get over it.
There’s a rule against thread bumping. Some people reported what could reasonably be considered thread bumping. I think you’re the one who needs to get over it.
Linky McSplinky? Or would that be asking too much? It’s not really a rule, and it is clear that rules are the burr under your saddle, but it is more or less expected.
Found it. Took me a while because I was looking for, y’know, a locked thread. Apparently, this bonehead’s only beef is that a couple people felt the thread should be reported, because no action was taken at all. Sheesh, “get a life,” indeed.
Here’s a Linky McSplinky to the rule(s) in question. In this particular case, Cuckoorex did nothing wrong in reviving the old thread. But to get so upset over people reporting it, well, I think that falls under “If that’s the worst thing that’s happened to you lately, you must have a pretty good life.”
I’ve once or twice done what Dex did there - explained my reasoning for leaving a thread open or unmoved - to stem a flood of reports.
We very, very, very, very, very much appreciate reported threads, though, even if we do nothing. None of us have the time to read everything that gets posted, and an alert posterdom is a tremendous help to us.
I would think the rococo sense would be even worse. And I don’t want to even think about what “a turd in the romantic sense” might imply.
I was among those who reported it – not because of any offense but because there’s a tendency among moderators to dislike the resurrection of ancient threads without an amazingly good reason for it.
And also because I got to make perhaps the all-time classic Mod Report on it:
OK…but it’s a misheard lyrics thread…in Cafe Society. Not an “evolution versus creationism” thread in GD or something that is in serious milk-the-chimp territory. Unless someone posts something that has some amazing double meaning, “Da Vinci Code” style, exactly how is there supposed to be some “amazingly good reason” for posting the in the thread AT ALL?? If I had just posted, “I miss this thread, someone post more here,” then THAT would have been “bumping” a thread.
