During the afternoon of July 20 (Sun) there was a pretty good run of fountaining lava. It quite near local sunset As of now (0830 Mon ET, 0230 HT) the fountaining is long over, and the last of it will scroll off the live feed 12 hour lookback in another 4-ish hours.
The latest episode (#29) was a disappointment compared to the last few - they predicted high fountaining but it never happened. I guess we’ll see what happens next.
For any insomniacs out there - I am posting the night of August 5, 2025 (how late it is depends on your time zone). It’s 8:34pm here in Hawai’i, so 11-ish or later for you folks on the continental US.
No eruption at the moment, but the glow from vcam3 is quite rambunctious and delightful. The USGS website is predicting another eruption (is it eruption #30 or #31 … something like that, we’re getting jaded now as there have been so many) any time within the next few days.
Anyhow … sleep if you can, but if you can’t, take a look. Seems like Pele MAY decide to start fountaining soon. Or not.
Yes ! Nice bit of fountaining occurring ! V3 is best, V2 appears to be
in black & white, V1 isn’t working !
(eta: 01:30 Hawaii time)
eta2: V1 is working, but seems to be a different link to the one I had saved.
On V2, it looks like another vent has opened. It is in color, but it is a bit washed out. The camera aperture may be a little high.
Still going strong at ~1100 ET, 0500 HT. Not real high fountaining, but pushing out lots of volume.
Latest eruption made the national news in the UK.
Spurtage reported to be up to 300m !
She’s at it again !
Not so high, but i guess that’s because there’s a wider opening/crater/vent
now. You know it’s good when you can see it on V1, V3 and V2 !
It quit around 0300 HT on Sat. But for at least a few more hours you can scroll back & see it go.
There’s an event happening now. Not very much fountaining, but lots of spillage and a nive lava river. V2 has the best view of the lava river, I think.
That is, in some ways, even better than the huge spurtulance. The lava
flow is mesmerizing.
This is getting big. Multiple vents have opened.
V3 Cam has the best view right now.
Seems to be some serious volume. Go baby, go!!
There is a minor event going on now. V2 has a very good view of the lava waterfall (lavafall?).
Here 25 minutes later it’s now just simmering happily in its little inner spatter cone; no outward flow.
And now, just a couple minutes later the oomph has increased and it’s now flowing nicely out of the cone onto the larger crater floor.
Yes - I noticed.
Still going nicely 15 hours later !
Latest video about the current activity from Big Island Video News. After covering the current episode, the remainder of the segment is a nice time lapse showing the crater bottom getting repeatedly covered by new lava flows.
