For volcano watchers - maybe you'll get lucky! {Kilauea may be erupting}

01:30 Hawaiian time… still going strong !

Nice. I scrolled back in time; there were some periods overnight when the fountain was much higher. I went all the way back to around the time of local sunset to see when it really got going. As it gets dark, you can see it glowing inside the fissure, but then suddenly in the lower left the actual outward flow of lava starts to be visible, at about 18:25 local time.

Here’s the link again so you don’t have to hunt for it.

There is still a nice fountain and flow. I like watching while it’s still dark.

Annnd it’s going again. Flow started to march fourth at around 14:00 local time.

ETA That’s when it escaped from the fissure in front, but if you look close you can see the fissure behind it had flow escaping for around an hour before then.

I was coming in here to post that. I just checked the live cam. I love watching the nighttime eruptions.

Still going strong !

It had stopped for a while at some point after my last post; I see it got going again in the wee hours (Hawaii time) this morning.

yeah. Between later on Mar 5 and now it had quit for a few days. Was steaming & maybe bubbling, but not fountaining. At least not at the several times I checked in that almost-week.

I ALMOST saw it start this time - I woke up and looked at the webcam around 3:30am, and it started around 3. Oh well. One of these days I’ll see it start live.

I was coming in to say that she had started again, but it seems to have slowed down in the time it took me to find the thread.

:frowning:

It’s been on again, off again two or three times in the last few hours. Pele is indeed a tease.

Going like gangbusters right this second, and they’ve moved or switched cameras, a different angle on the pair of vents.

As I write - March 25, 2026 at 6:46 pm Hawaii Standard Time, so later for you mainland folks, the v2 cam is awesome.

But it could stop at any moment. :grimacing: So don’t blame me if you look and nothing is happening.

Now a few hours later at 2am Hawaii time, 8am eastern on Wed 3/26 it’s smoking/steaming nicely and slowly oozing pretty glowing lava. No fountains at the moment.

Go Pele!!

There is some spitting right now. The V1 cam has the better view.

Look NOW if you can! 600 feet fountaining. I have never seen it so high before.

ETA: v2 best view right now

Wow. It almost looks like it goes up and evaporates; I can’t see the part coming back down. That’s real impressive for that kind of volcano & lava.

ETA: Whether you see the descending stuff sorta depends on the wind. It looks like the lava is cooling to below incandescent on the way up, so is dark while falling. That’d be a real show after dark if it lasts that long.

Also the camera, I think. I now have tabs for both v1 and v2 and am looking at both. One of them, I think v1, shows much more clearly the ash/Pele’s hair/whatever all the falling stuff is.

The lower fountain was the one sort of simmering overnight, just oozing goo over it’s crater lip. Right now it’s not fountaining very high, but wow, that lava output rate is impressive. Lots of new rock per second.

Thanks for the reminder to look at v1 too.

And here ~20 minutes later the lower high flow rate vent I mentioned has stopped completely. A very dynamic situation overall.
