What’s up with the votes on Blaster? What information do you expect to get from his lynch? His contributions are nil. Whatever his alignment, there’s no record to hold against. It’s a waste of a lynch.

But at the same time, by baiting people, you get to see everyone’s reactions to it. You get people to comment on the record, both the targets and the observors. The more you force scum to go on record, the more you can catch them in contradictions and weaseling later. Also, the baiter himself is on record for the gambit, which will be part of that player’s overall noteable pattern. I can’t say too much, being spoiled, but the way this went down by all involved (the baiter, the baitee, and the other commenters) is interesting.

Assuming he’s Town, I’m not sure I agree with how he went about this, especially since the risk had no direct payoff, and lying does create noise. But he did troll some reactions, and should those involved in the discussion be confirmed in some way, the interactions do provide some data points.

If I were a town vig, he would be on my list of possible targets, though.

I disagree as someone he is used to baiting people, albeit badly, but this is not the way to do it. Pushing ideas and getting the town to react is a better way to make people talk.

This is not about generating discussion, this is about backtracking from a slip.

Now, I’m not going to say whether he is town or scum, seeing as Zeriel did the same thing in the last game.

Also, thinking of set up and its possible complexity I’d sure, as a betting man, be looking at some of the more experienced players and how they will attemp to lead others by the nose.

Well JSexton was town, an interesting strategy, no doubt one not often to be repeated.

I still feel Rapier and Hal are scum, and as for Nanook, well he has now changed his claim and sounds like he is claiming a guest and was just trying to attract some night time fire. Don’t believe him. So far his role is claimed as one that has a limited life - needs to get at least one person to vote for him every day, had no special power and it appears he was not sure if he could vote for himself or not (why didn’t he do it one day one?)
I guess he is probably safe from a scum kill, if he is not scum, as he is providing plenty of distraction to town.
Anyone think the sock role is a recruitment role?

This. A big part of why I did it was to gain reactions that could be important later. I guess the difference in culture here and my usual site is bigger than I thought. There’s no way I would have been lynched for it there, but part of good play is adapting to the other players. I hold myself responsible. I can only help it will help later on.

I tried to read that game once – I had a job where I had 30 minutes of work a day. I made it to day 3 eventually, but was blown away. I was never able to understand what was going on with that day…even knowing which side some of the players were on.

He made a comeback in Cult of Sekham, possibly the only game that outmarathoned M2.

He survived the whole game, pugnacious to the last, starring in the three-handed faceoff with DarkCookies and Kyrie Eleison. Hasn’t played since. Neither has Kyrie, in fact.

I wouldn’t mind seeing them pop up again.

(Now I will concede sachertorte’s point that in this group is still seems to hold fairly frequently that scum doesn’t do the things that “scum would never do”. But the argument is only good until scum decides to finally do them just to shake things up. And you never know when that will happen, so it’s not good to use it for determining towniness.)

I’m not paying attention to the game, but I saw my name so I think I’ll respond.

Hoopy Frood, yes, you do know when it becomes a viable scum tactic. It becomes a viable scum tactic after a townie successfully attains “town” status by pointing out behavior that is clearly 1) not helpful to scum and 2) likely to get that person lynched. Only AFTER that happens does scum gain a position to try that gambit. Not before.

So far, no townie has ever survived this scrutiny, therefore scum are loathe to try it. I agree that the tactic has a short shelf life, but the stubbornness of these Townies is amazingly resilient.
