My mom’s in Issaquah and my sister in Sammamish, so I’m sure if it gets actually nasty there I’ll hear about it. Since my mom’s 88 with a bad knee, she at least has the good sense to stay indoors when it gets snowy or icy.
By contrast, here in Maryland it is currently 64°F/18°C, but is supposed to go down 20 degrees by tonight and then tomorrow’s high is forecast for lower than today’s low. Go figure. At least we missed that awful ice storm; we had a bad one a couple years ago, and I’m quite happy without another one.
I’m in Sammamish, and while it’s pretty damn chilly (almost 10am and it’s still 20 degrees), there’s really not much snow or ice. There were a few icy spots up on the plateau, but nothing worth worrying about.
We’re supposed to get more snow later this week, which will most likely stick as it’s not supposed to get above freezing between now and then.
That said, it’s currently one of the clearest days I’ve ever seen, here. Mt Rainier looks like it’s right on top of us.
And… I awoke to 9 degrees and -14 windchill; the car is encased in ice. Baby, it’s cold out there! I am home from errands and ready to make brownies and knit.
Here in Tacoma we had a small amount of snow yesterday morning, but it was dusted over ice, which is not at all fun for driving, and in fact walking was plenty treacherous. Then last night we got some really fine snow dusted over yesterday’s leftovers, and I was worried about today’s commute. Fortunately, the main roads in my neighborhood seem fairly clear and dry today, but the side roads, which don’t see much sun in the winter, still have ice and are not much fun.
Last time I checked the sun was shining, but the temp was in the high 20’s.
I have heard that we’re supposed to get more snow later this week, and I am not looking forward to it. I love to look at snow, but I detest having to drive in it. We have enough hills here to make it a bit scary.
Snowed in in the Willamette Valley today, about 5" when we got up. My neighbor chained up and said it was pretty nasty getting to the valley floor, then okay as long as you drive slowly. Our street hasn’t been plowed, no trash pick up, no postal service. Now it will ice up overnight. We have a steep driveway, so we’re in until at least tomorrow. Of course, this inspires in me a ferocious need to run out to buy a copy of The Invention of Hugo Cabret right this instant.
I made it to Alger this morning, about 35 miles down the road. Hardly even a dusting of snow here, but as I approached Alger the freeway was covered, speeds were down as low as 30 mph, and the radio was saying conditions in Marysville were ‘treacherous’. And heavier snow is expected later. I turned around and am working from home. Snowing lightly now.
I’m under another winter storm watch – I expect they’ll upgrade it to a warning late today or early tomorrow. They’re saying we could get a foot above 6000 feet, up to 8 inches lower down. I’m at 5800. If they are right, we’re gonna get it over Thursday night. It looks like I’ll get the same storm that’s hitting Oregon and Washington, but there’s a mess coming up from California that could get to us in a few days.
Yay! More snow! The timing sucks but I’ll take it.
Up here by the sea in Whatcom County we’ve got about four inches of snow. I found out the Prius has a slippy light (loss-of-traction annunciator). The roads are packed snow. No snowplows yet/here. I took the Jeep out. Before, using 4WD in the snow, it’s quite solid. Today though, my tail went out about 30º going around a corner from a stop. Temperature is about 27ºF.
The president of the company I work for sent an email instructing employees to call him in the morning if the weather is bad, to see if the office will be open. (The office is in Seattle/Belltown, where it seems it’s not snowing yet according to a coworker.)
We’re, what? Twelve hours into the Storm of the Century?
I’ve seen maybe one snowflake here in Redmond. A lot of the local schools canceled classes today, due to the storm predictions last night… I’m betting there are a lot of embarrassed weathermen right now.
Lightnin’, on a couple of occasions when my brother was in school in Maryland they cancelled school because they thought it was going to snow – and it didn’t.
I’d like to see them do that here. The kids would never go at all!
Apparently Vancouver got all the snow. We got dumped on here (at least by local standards), while my friends in Victoria were complaining about the storm that never arrived. I’m mostly worried that the sidewalks are going to be ice rinks by the time I head off to work in the morning.
