Forgot the #$%& bacon!

We got our first huge grocery delivery on Friday (since self-quantining for a week) and we were disappointed with what was left out or substituted. So we donned our best gloves and masks (quickly discarded when faced with the sparse shoppers) to see what was available. Remarkable array of fresh produce, but limited meat, which we didn’t care about. We’re good on tp and towels and using cloth towels when possible, so bare shelves didn’t bother us. But somehow we both forgot bacon!!! What idiots! Is there anything else in a generic cupboard that can be a substitute?

A lot of sandwich meats and charcuterie like salami or Prosciutto tastes really good when fried up to a crispy state.

I remembered the bacon :), but I forgot the damn mayo, again :(.
I have a bunch of boiling potatoes, bacon, onions, etc waiting for potato salad. But no mayo for aforementioned salad, and no eggs to create my own.

dup.

Spam, perhaps? And there are a couple of companies that offer canned bacon, which might be something for the emergency supplies.

There’s also cooked, ready-to-eat dry pack bacon. And bacon bits.

As mentioned - Spam in a can or corned beef hash in a can.
Canadian* Bacon**
Thin sliced ham along with the spoken for prosciutto, salami, etc…
Not sure of this one; jerky w/w/o rehydration???

*Not from Canada
**Not bacon

I went to store recently for body wash. Got groceries, too, or so I thought. Got back home, no body wash. :smack:

So I had to use dishwashing liquid next morning. Hey, it’s antibacterial.

You did yourself a favor. Don’t bother with that pussy supermarket bacon.

Get the good stuff: 4 packs Hickory Smoked Country Bacon

I know, that’s expensive, and plus shipping it’s about $14/lb, but IMO it’s worth it. Rashers are a big 1/4" thick. Just one rasher is actually a fairly significant piece of meat.

My brother bought me that Bentons bacon a couple months ago. It is absolutely insane. You can practically smell the smoke through the plastic. If you don’t like smoky foods, you’re not going to like it, but it tastes like the essence of great barbecue to me. I have never had another bacon that tastes remotely close to this one. Typically, around here, Nueske’s is the high end to look out for.
