Speaking of bacon, Cash & Carry has been a good source. The Cloverdale Meats brand comes in six-pound portions, divided into two, three-pound vacuum-sealed sections. We portion it out into plastic-wrapped packets with about 24 strips in each. That way we can have three weeks’ worth of bacon in the fridge, and the rest stays in the freezer until it’s needed.
This is truly the first sign of the Apocalypse…NO MORE SMOKY GOODNESS!!!
I would make my own bacon if the shortage were real. Lamb bacon is really good too.
Slight hijack: am I the only one who is supremely disappointed with turkey bacon? It is so unsatifying that I end up eating twice as much. So where’s the calorie savings there? :dubious:
The original article was referring to what Americans call “Canadian bacon.” So even if there was a shortage, the only people affected would be those who eat Egg McMuffins, and the effect would be that it would cost more: you could still get bacon if you were willing to pay extra.
Meh, if bacon was so important to me, I would just go buy a piglet or two every spring and fatten them up on my own. Life on a small plot of land can make grocery shopping interesting. Time for the roomie to go chase the geese out of the front yard again.
I’m a little forgiving when it comes to turkey bacon. Yeah I know it’s not real bacon, but sometimes it’s there anyway and I’m higher up on the food chain, so in my mouth it goes. No one ever accused Velveeta of being a real cheese and I don’t seek that orange glop out, but if it’s there in a cheese dip, I may dunk a chip into it.
all the bacon will be bought up to extract bacon flavor. so there will be plenty of bacony flavored things, just no bacon. bacon ice cream will still be available.
I have never seen beef bacon but the restaurant down the street from me makes lamb bacon. My wife and our friends really like it but I prefer their pork bacon.
