Former NFL Pro Bowl Cornerback Vontae Davis found dead at 35

He played his first 3 years with Miami, then played for Indianapolis for 6 years, and then played for Buffalo for his last year before retiring. Former NFL tight end Vernon Davis was his older brother.

Police have said it doesn’t look like foul play, and he was found by his grandmother in a Florida mansion.

I can’t even begin to speculate as to what could have happened. Needless to say, 35 is extremely young.

Davis abruptly retired at halftime of his second game with the Bills, in 2018, and never came back to the game, stating that he simply didn’t want to play any longer.

Dying so young is tragic, and I worry that the toll on his body from the game played a role, but I imagine we’ll learn more in the weeks to come.

I remember that now. That was crazy.

A fellow Fighting Illini Alum. I went to the Rose Bowl to watch him get whooped by USC back in 2008.

I remember that surprise retirement.

It would be unfortunate if, despite retiring then to prolong his life, he still died of football-related reasons super early anyway.
