Isn’t Tom Hanks descended from Lincoln’s mom - not Mary Todd Lincoln.

If it is Hanks then …
Former Cabinet Secretary Claude A.

And besides, Tom Hanks isn’t a former U.S. political figure. Descendants aren’t relevant to this thread … especially descendants of the parent of a political figure.

Yes, Hanks is descended from Lincoln’s mother, not his wife: Nancy Lincoln - Wikipedia

Former Cabinet Secretary Claude A.

Wickard

Chief Justice Harlan F.

Incorrect! He is Claude R. Wickard

Still in play: Former Cabinet Secretary Claude A.

[was Tom Hanks incorrect or not?]

In play: Former Senator and actor Fred D.

Incorrect. This thread is not about descendants of the mothers of political figures. Or anyone else’s descendants. I’ve allowed First Ladies*, but that doesn’t extend to Presidential progeny.

And let’s keep it Federal. No governors, etc.

*Although First Lady isn’t an elected office, she is nevertheless a “political figure.” Michelle Obama has a lot more political relevance than Malia or Sasha.

This is becoming a bit restrictive, isn’t it?

Former Senator and actor Fred D.

Chief Justice Harlan F.

So the question was inappropriate & incorrect but the answer was right?

The answer was a correct response to the clue itself, but the clue was not within the parameters of this thread. (channeling John Charles Daly)

Ok, in the spirit of non-restrictiveness, let’s open it up to statewide/local political offices (governors, state senators, mayors, etc.). But no relatives, acquaintances, or people merely sharing the same planet. Sorry about moving the goal post; I’m just trying to define the rules while keeping it fun.

I don’t think we need to keep appending “Former” to every title.
