Here’s the pass, no further action on this one. The stewards seem to have no problem with drivers running each other off the road on corner exit, but in this case it’s also a corner entry, so it was pretty shitty.
Is Verstappen bidding to be the new Maldonado?
Actually, who remembers the carnage when Grosjean first joined F1?
Me. Actually, my F1 memory goes clear back to Andrea DeCrasherorus, and beyond.
And I’ll just note, there is a good reason Max is on my “Death List”. Boy has skills, but is a tad “rash”.
Fuck, I hate it when Danny wins. That shoe thing is disgusting.
At least Kimi got some hardware.
I see Baku is being broadcast at 4:30pm on Sunday.
This can’t be live? Dammit! I like my F1 like my breakfast. In the morning! (I remember the old days when I’d have to get up at 5 in the morning to catch races) I’ll have to avoid all manner of spoilers throughout the day, now. It seems the only time F1 is in the news is when I haven’t seen the race yet.
I wish they would have gotten approvals from me on all this change first.
Yeah, the only live races I get to see are from like australia or china or japan, or anything that gets broadcast here late Saturday nights. And I work Sundays so for all the other races I have to pretty much stay off the internet until I can get home and watch the race replay from the app.
After 40 fucking years, I don’t like it.
My DVR is showing 7:05 am Central time on ESPN2 for the race, which I believe is live.
ESPN? I’ll go look…
Not on DishTV.
Only my opinion, but the Baku track is a disgrace. F1 should not race in those close quarters, except for Monaco, which is “grandfathered” in as complete bullshit.
I see no reason to adopt additional bullshit circuits for the spectacle of inferior drivers crashing their teammates in to the wall. Fuck that. Go back to France, or Imola, or Holland, or Goddamn Watkins Glen!
I can get the race live this week but I’m not seeing the qualifying on the DVR, just practice.
I kind of like Baku, especially the building in the background that looks like Bowser’s Castle. hangs head, slowly sneaks away
Man, I was drunk last night!
It’s really only a couple corners that are a total bottleneck; the rest of the track is plenty wide. But it has the same problem as most street circuits, too many 90-degree turns.
The other thing I don’t like about most street circuits is that there’s no margin for error. At road courses, if you get a little off the ideal line, you lose some time. Too many street circuits have the problem that if you get a little off line you’re into the wall and out of the race. It’s kind of like The Price is Right; just one dollar over the correct price and you’re out.
They are going back to France this year; Circuit Paul Ricard on June 24th.
It would be interesting to see them run at Watkins Glen again, for the history of it.
Predictable. Practice was set to record, and I get fucking high-school football instead.
Formula 1: So much money and so little brains.
Just in case anyone hasn’t watched yet.
I don’t know who’ll be found at fault for the Verstappen/Ricciardo accident, but the seeds were planted much earlier.
Did Grosjean throw away a podium finish?
That was fun to watch.
The ending not so much though… sigh.
This is the race you point to when some of the more smug F1 fans start bragging about how F1 drivers are the best in the world.
What about Vettel’s try on Bottas?
And Kimi got far too little camera time for his quiet progression through the ranks.
I wasn’t expecting that finish. It was a fun race to watch. I need to keep an eye out for the details about how Grosjean was hit by a car ten lenghts back
I noticed that SKY ran the bit about all of the race day coverage they put on, including two pre-race show (pits and the grid), the actual race, and the after race paddock show. Now, I get it that ESPN sucks hairy donkey balls and has to fit in a fucking bass fishing show somewhere in the day in the name of sport, but if they are just going to phone it in by showing the SKY coverage they could at least offer ALL of SKY’s coverage on the streaming ESPN 3.
And is there any coverage of the F2 races? NBCSN covered those races too.
Haas has had brake issues with this car. It’s possible Grosjean was braking and one side locked up. He might have thought that felt like getting hit from behind, or just said that to cover his ass.
I do kind of miss the NBCSN coverage. They gave a bit of extra emphasis to the American team and race; not ridiculous about it, but nice for an American fan.
I caught a bit of the rebroadcast and it was interesting. During an interview with the head of Force India, he said that Perez was in good position because the Red Bulls weren’t going to the end. He meant that they still had to make pit stops, but took on different meaning considering how things wound up. And they repeated a comment Grosjean made during the pre-race, that he was going to have fun because starting from last place he had nothing to lose.
And there were things that went unnoticed. Verstappen cut a corner early in the race. Perhaps the stewards thought he didn’t advance his position. Seems like a bad ruling to allow that sort of thing; there weren’t other cars around for him to advance his position against, but it could have saved him some time. And it looked like a bit of a dodgy pit release of Raikkonen during the safety car. He got released from the pit box, then had to slow down because of a McLaren going past. Are the stewards not as diligent about that during a safety car, or is it only an unsafe release if the cars come closer to hitting?
Does anyone know where the debris came from that caused Bottas’s flat tire? I don’t recall any incidents near that part of the track, especially just before the flat.
