Formula 1 2022

Considering all the complaining about the Miami track since it was announced, I think it turned out to be pretty good. All the “Ooooh, another boring car park track boooooo” doesn’t seem to have panned out.

Reminds me a little of Baku; mostly wide enough, but one little section where it winds through a place where there really isn’t enough room. At least it’s not all 90-degree turns like some street circuits. There are a few places where it looks like the surface has been patched, so I hope the asphalt doesn’t break up during the race.

Watching the Pre-race. Looks like a party. Wish I was there…

I’m laughing my ass off watching Brundle’s grid walk.

So far this season: If Max finishes the race, he wins. If not, Charles wins.

Indeed, Comedy Gold!

I’ve often wondered why does he think F1 fans give a single shit about ‘celebs’?

The grid walk never used to be filled with so many celebs. It was always drivers and engineers plus the odd recognisable face. It’s just sort of morphed into this celeb fest in the last two or three years and then only at tracks like Miami.

I know there’s quite a ‘debate’ (ahem) regarding which has better drivers, NASCAR or F1. This video of Magnussen and Schumacher taking a day driving a Haas NASCAR would seem to close the door on that.

The NASCAR drivers’ reactions…

Also, it’s just FP2 but how 'bout dem Mercedes today? Did they figure it out? I’d love to see 6 drivers really completing for the top 6 places.

I’m not even going to comment on this!

ISWIDT

Fairly good race, and no offense to Checo, Max would have passed him without the team orders. He was on fire.

Would have been interesting to see where Hamilton might have finished if he hadn’t had that first lap collision. His pace was stronger than Russell’s.

His ultimate race pace was quicker than everyone who finished. There’s a good chance he would have beaten one or both of the Red Bulls.

I was at the Miami Grand Prix, and it was epic, even though that whiny little shit Verstappen won. I was shocked by how well the race was run.

Haas needs to rethink their strategy. They’ve been mid-pack the last couple races, and then fallen off a cliff in the last few laps. Either their tire wear is terrible, or they’ve been planning their pit stops badly.

Shame about Charles, though Max continues his incredibly strange DNF or win trend.

Ferrari front row. I predict a blood-bath tomorrow. I just sense it coming. Would not be shocked if Max launches a torpedo in the first corner, or if one of the Haas (or BOTH) generate Red Flags at some point.

As historic a place Monaco is, that track really has no business on the modern F1 schedule. They should keep it up as an exhibition event, where all the current drivers compete against each other in identical Go-Karts, for half-points or something. I don’t know… maybe I should start drinking already also. Not sure which idea has more merit…

One more thing: The light was Green at the entrance to the tunnel AFTER Carlos hit Checo. You can clearly see it on replay. True, it goes out almost instantly, but the Ferrari was at a dead stop while it was green. Not sure what he saw exiting the hairpin and making the quick rights… I’d love to see that Helmet Cam footage.

Just found some on-board (but not from his helmet) from Carlos. Pretty clear yellow lite-board at the bottom of the hairpin, and a yellow flag waaaay over to the left of the track. Easy to miss, but he shouldn’t have. That was he does for a living. He might be in a spot of trouble.

They could probably make race day at Monaco more exciting if there were a few extra rules such as forcing each car to make at least two pit stops, or dictating that teams must run a split strategy.

I kept waiting for Max and Checo to receive a 5-second penalty for crossing the pit line, but that never materialized.
