Formula 1 2023 thread

I guess I’m slumming it today by watching Indycar in Long Beach. It hasn’t even started yet and I’m already annoyed by the number of commercials during the pre-yap.

What are those cars made of? Bounce off walls, nose into a massive tire barrier… get pulled out and finish the race?

I don’t know who this Pato guy is, but he drives like an Ass.

The Indycar is a tough beast. I think it was a couple of year ago in Nashville where Marcus Ericsson launched his car in the air when he hit the back of another car. He went on to win. The landing would probably have broken the front suspension of an F1 car, I think. Starts at about the 25 second mark:

This three-week layoff has been rough. Almost feels like the off-season! Looking forward to some action this weekend.

DVR failed to get Friday Qualy. Or maybe it wasn’t broadcast on Dish. Cut dramatically from practice to Ball sports. We may never know…

Results below.

Leclerc on pole

Yay! Thanks!

DirecTV also failed to air qualification, despite me paying those fucking bastards $200 per month. And of course, the ESPN app on Roku always makes me log in not one but twice.

You might think that a race owned by a fucking media company would sort out their shit. But no chance of that.

Results on the so called “sprint shootout”

Leclerc again! Even though he binned it his final lap!

F1 TV has been pretty much flawless for me except for a few streaming problems a few seasons ago. I think I pay $10/ month. Well worth it.

For some reason, my DVR thinks I want to watch the stoopid warm-up show live, then wait hours or days to watch the actual race. I have to go in and un-skip the race manually. Pain in the ass!

That was an interesting quali.

It’s stoking my desire for Perez to take the championship from Max.

As much as I want to hate the Miami track, it did provide an interesting qualification. And as much as I bitched about Danica Patrick last year, she did do a decent job with post qualification questions.

Bad luck for Max. If he can make it out of lap 1 unscathed, I predict P3 is the best he can do unless he gets some luck with yellow flags. I also predict the yellow will be provided by Alpha Tauri.

And a heads up for US fans. The race is on ABC rather than ESPN in an attempt to thwart your DVR plans.

She did better, yes. But I still can’t stand her.

I didn’t not see that race coming off without at least a yellow flag.

What a boring race.

Emilia-Romagna cancelled due to the flooding in the area. Obviously the right call, but why couldn’t this have happened at Miami instead?

Or at Paul Ricard?

Yeah. I gotta dust off the Black-and-White TV for that race.
