Formula 1 2023 thread

Yeah, I agree. Most of my post was… satire? I wonder if they could do like those musical roads and make the grooves off the track yell at them? “Get back on the fucking track!”

But the Stewards/FIA would argue what language it should be.

Watching the helmet cams, the only thing really keeping more drivers from playing darts with the barriers are the braking distance boards. “50 meters? BRAKEBRAKEBRAKE!

I wish they could invent something at the edge of the track that would be slower than staying on the track, and not put the drivers or cars at risk.

As for the lines, the drivers have plenty of opportunity to learn where they are before the race, or even qualifying starts. If they’re too aggressive and go over, it’s totally on them.

As mentioned in the commentary, when it’s wet and the paint is slippery, they all magically manage to stay in bounds. This whole “controversy” is %100 driver whining because they got too greedy.

Wet Sprint. That was fun to watch.

Race was just as good! I predicted the last lap fun.

Damn good race! Very surprised at the pace of McLaren. I admit I’ve not paid much attention to them, but they showed up today.

Stroll needs to go back to Go Karts.

Rucciardo replacing DeVries for the remainder of the season.

This is good news! I was hoping to see him again. Would be nice if he was in a better car, but it’s good to have him back.

They do: gravel. It can mean the end of a race if a car gets beached, but a small off allows the driver to maintain momentum and rejoin the track.

Gravel is fine as a last-ditch safeguard to slow a car down before hitting a wall. I was thinking of something that wouldn’t do any damage to the cars, and could be done right at the edge of the track.

Grass.

Or maybe an oil patch? A burning oil patch?

Something like grass would work, as long as there’s as there’s a strip of pavement to get the car back on track before it can dig into the gravel. I was thinking that just beyond the edge of the track, the ground could slope down a few inches. Go over that and you have to slow down to merge back onto the track.

The idea is to punish a driver who puts a wheel over the edge of the track, but not so harshly that they dig into a gravel trap, damage the car, or slide into a wall.

(And I’m not talking about the “warn them twice, then add five seconds if the stewards see it” type of punishment.)

A Burning Bush? Nah. Too Biblical.

I hate these god damn kid announcers they’ve been pimping all weekend!

However, they are all way better than Danica Patrick.

WHAT THE FUCK is Danica Patrick wearing on the Grid??? That is the Fugliest Goddamn thing I’ve ever seen, and I lived in Las Vegas for a while.

Yeah. I think we can dispense with this Old Bullshit Right The Fuck Now.

Thank God for the DVR, Fast-Forward, Skip and Mute buttons.

Because of the rain delay, my DVR timed out on the second formation lap of the sprint. I went to YouTube to watch it, and Man! are those comments wild!

I got this mental image of a bunch of red-faced people shouting at their phone and jumping up and down in a rage.

And yes, that 5 second penalty was deserved. Get over it.

That Irish Gal’s accent slays me!

9 in a row for Verstappen - what a remarkable driver. It’s easy to say the Red Bull is miles quicker than all the other cars, but Verstappen is dominating him teammate, like he has dominated every teammate he’s had.
