Formula 1 2023 thread

Holy Jebus, lance stroll just barely missed death. Hit the barrier in qualy at like 150mph.They were showing his onboard camera live when it happened and I screamed and ducked. Shit was scary. He walked away, but yikes!

Now q2 to just ended to very surprising results. Might be the most exciting qualifying of the year so far and Q3 hasn’t started yet!

And oh yeah, I love the Williams livery this week

Super close top 3! Let’s hope the race is as exciting!

Ah shit, it was so exciting that I forgot Danica Patrick was in town. But ugh, now she’s doing post qualifying interviews.

Interesting results. Tomorrow should be exciting. That helicopter shot at Singapore is pretty worthless. Hey, look! The top of a building!

Which is exactly why cities pay such exorbitant prices for the honor of hosting a race. To get their name on the world stage and attract tourists.

That was a nail biter! Hard earned for everyone on the podium.

Dangit!! I was watching on a bit of delay, maybe 15 laps behind. I’m pretty good about not looking at FB when that’s the case, so I don’t see spoilers.

Today I had a brain fart around lap 48 and grabbed my phone to look at a FB notification, only to see right at the top of my feed “Russell in the wall in the final lap!!”

Stole some of the drama, but the end of that race was still epic.

Geez, Carlos had to work hard for that! Way to go!

The safety cars couldn’t really have been much better for Mercedes. The first was just when the teams on medium tires needed to pit, and too early for Verstappen on the hard tires. Then the virtual safety car let them put on their unused medium tires. Even with those breaks, not quite enough for the win.

The first part of the race wasn’t terribly exciting, with everyone conserving their tires, but I would have liked to see how it played out without the safety car. I wonder who would have come in first for new tires, and when.

I’ll admit that I would like to go to Singapore based on what I see during the race.

Miami, not so much. We have parking lots here.

About exciting as Paul Ricard. Ocan took one for the viewing audience, and I thank him for it.

Hamilton could have pitted alone without the VSC and probably would have won - he was obviously much more comfortable on the new mediums than Russell. Putting under the VSC caused him to lose position to Norris because Mercedes were double stacking. The VSC was certainly favorable to George’s chances but I’m the end his finishing position would have been the same.

Exciting sprint! I hope the real race is too.

Congrats to Verstappen on 2.5 championships. And to Piastri on his first win. I suppose now we know why McLaren and Alpine were fighting over him.

The sprint was fun because it came down to tire selection with no chance for pit strategy to make corrections. Don’t know if the GP will be as exciting, but it might be.

And it may have been considered a racing incident, but Checo took himself out by trying to pass on the outside of two other cars. Three wide in a corner isn’t a good idea.

Have we abandoned the “no spoilers” thing the OP requested at the beginning of the thread? If so, I’m all in. I thought it was pointless.

No, that’s my mistake. My apologies.

Can we abandon the “no spoilers?” It’s a pretty simple thing to not open the thread if you haven’t seen the race yet, and it’s pretty silly for everyone else to have to vaguepost until someone has had time to fire up the DVR.

This doesn’t spoil the results, so I will go ahead and post this. I wasn’t aware that there were tire limits this weekend. I didn’t think I would like that, but I think it did result in more exciting racing than usual.

It was an interesting wrinkle, but I don’t think it should be an all the time thing.
