I think in general most penalties are too lax, but bunching up the field that aggressively in those conditions was extremely dangerous. Max overplayed his hand and made the situation look worse but everyone behind them was at risk of a pile up.
10s is about right, but other infringements have been worse and penalized less, which makes this penalty look harsher than it was.
Every rookie that comes into F1 is said to be the Next Big Thing by someone!
Hadjar had an extremely embarrassing start this season, but seems to be doing better than many of his fellow rookies.
Lawson was given the big seat next to Verstappen only to have it unceremoniously pulled out from under him after only two races, and only to have his much more experienced replacement do no better than he did. He’s also coming along pretty well in a slower, but more driveable car.
Expectations for new drivers coming into F1 are sky high and it is very rare that anyone can live up to them. The very few who do either become the legends of the sport (Hamilton and [spit] Verstappen) or flame out quickly and are gone within a season or two.
Of course. That is the nature of the sport. But The Hulk was talked up even more than usual at the time. I been drinkin’ all day and just riffing from memory, but it seems that he was Champion in every formula and feeder series up to F1. He was gonna be the next Schumacher.
He never really got the car under him. And the fact that he is still around after 239 starts shows he is the real deal. I would like to see him as a second in Red Bull, or Mercedes. Yuki and Lance should be long gone and Nico should have been fighting for championships.
Anyway, great to see him on the podium finally. For an Overrated Rookie, he is seriously an Underrated Veteran.
What other team could afford him? I guess if he got shit-canned for Shenanigans, he might have to accept a little less. Interested to see how this all comes out…
You know, now that you mention it… It’s a case of me not seeing the forest for the trees. F1 has a long history of being paid for by the lowest of the low products. Red Bull itself is the vilest thing I can image. Cheap booze and cigarettes…
Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren, BMW… they all seemed so exclusive and exotic. The Glitz and The Glamor of Monaco… sponsored by nicotine delivery products.
You’ve shattered my Mind, Robot! My Rose Colored Glasses have been smashed! As a youngin’, I didn’t even know what Cinzano or John Player Special was, but I figured it just had to be cool. I’ve been living a lie.
I do love that KFC Original Recipe. Extra Crispy? An Abomination against civilization!
A bit of a snoozer. Decent recovery drive by ham. Norris just didn’t have it to take piastri. Thankfully verstappen was not even in the conversation, I guess. I need a nap.
Great finish to what started out as a bit of a snoozer! Leclerc has a great first half, but I wonder how Ferrari Ferrari’s things up to ruin his second half. Their put stops were fantastic! 2.3, 2.0, 1.9 seconds I saw. I was a fan of leclerc’s weaving in the braking zone though. That’s more of a Max thing
Speaking of Max, that incident with Ham looked like nothing. I wonder why they’re “investigating after the race”
And that Boetelleto kid, I was impressed with him the whole race!
Huh. I was actually thinking he looked a hell of a lot better that he had over the last couple years. Thought maybe he’s cleaned up his act a little. He used to be really fat, bloated and greasy.
Just finished watching Hungary. It’s only been recently that I’ve been able to catch F1 on cable. How to I put this…it’s not a highly competitive league like, say, the NBA or PGA. It’s more like college football, in which the biggest, richest teams will always have an advantage, and even if a lovable underdog pulls off the occasional thrilling upset, it’s not going to significantly change the standings. But the level of skill that goes into it, especially all the on-the-fly adjustments and constant keeping tabs on the opposition, is amazing. I enjoy watching it as a technical exercise without being too concerned about who finishes where. I actually find the relative lack of massive wrecks a plus, as they just slow things down way too much (especially if a red flag comes out, which is DEATH).
I was seriously impressed by now Lando Norris gutted out a 1-stop win. Those tires looked like they’ve been through hell afterward. Oscar Piastri, dang, looked great all day, thought he had it. Next time. Feel for Charles Leclerc. He looked so happy to get that pole and then it all just dribbles away.
Question: Is anyone else put off by how much whining these drivers do? Not because it’s immature, but because it makes it impossible to tell how much trouble they’re really in. If a cyclist goes down and starts screaming, you know he’s in a bad way. F1, he can say that his hand is [bad word] up, and he’s in the exact same position 20 laps later.
