"Forrest" bumper sticker

Passed a car today festooned with Confederate flag bumper stickers, one of which read “I ride with Forrest.” At first glance, my thought was that it was a reference to everyone’s favorite Gump. Is it? IIRC, in the movie, it’s acknowledged that Mrs. Gump named her son after the founder of the KKK, Nathan Bedford Forrest (to remind him of the shame?).

Is this bumper sticker then a signal that the driver is in, or supports, the KKK?

Posted here since it is rather pointless, and to ease the burden on GQ.

Sir

Hmmm… I did a quick search on Google for “Forrest” and came up with nothing except Nathan Bedford Forrest, Confederate Cavalry General, so my guess would be that the reference was, indeed, to him or to the KKK…

Nice bumper sticker, I think I’m gonna get one that says “Hi, I have my head up my ass!”

I would have to agree that he’s proclaiming his support of Nathan Bedford Forrest, since I don’t see how I Ride With Forrest is any reference to the movie at all.

see, now it becomes clear to me, I saw the same bumper sticker and thought it made no sense. now I know it doesn’t make any sense.

I could do with some of Whammo’s extra eggs now, and go and find that car again!!!

No, it makes sense.

Astroboy14, your search wasn’t specific enough. When I went to google and searched on “I ride with Forrest,” it brought up a link to the racist organization, the National Association for the Advancement of White People (NAAWP). And at that site (which I spent only a few seconds reading, for fear of getting cooties) did refer to Nathan Bedford Forrest.

When I lived in AL, these bumperstickers were sometimes seen. It was pretty rare, but I saw a couple. It was usually on an old pickup truck with a disheveled guy with a mullet driving.

I was in line at a BK Friday and saw a Forrest bumper sticker on a '05 Chevy 2500 driven by a man in his late 20’s early 30’s. All I could muster up was pity for him and sadness for the world.:frowning:

Hope you’ll stick around and find other conversations you want to get involved in!
