We’re taking our three-year-old Dudeling on his first ever trip. A cousin is getting married, and we turned the three-day shindig into a two-week extravaganza. If it makes a difference geography-wise, were doing a bit of hotel-hopping—at the Diplomat, the B Ocean Fort Lauderdale, and the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach.
It’s kind of easy to see where we can take [del]and abandon him for the day in the swamps[/del] him to see the alligators. What about Halloween night? We have an awesome, albeit simple costume lined up (my folks will be there, so the five of us will comprise one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish), but the NYC Greenwich Village parade will be a bit hard to get to.
I’m not really a kid person, so I don’t know what’s going on for Halloween. I’m actually going to spend the evening at a bar very near the B Ocean.
I can offer to do recon or a little research, though. I have a friend with a 6 year old - I’ll ask her what she suggests. Which hotel do you plan to be at that evening?
Also, if you have any other questions for the two weeks you’re down, or want to get meet a local Doper over a beer or something, let me know.

My co-workers say they pretty much do trick-or-treating around the neighborhood…but that the local shopping malls often have events on Halloween.
Some web searches show a handful of events in the area, but not much on Halloween itself. Hereis one of the better lists I’ve turned up. Feel free to ping me if you want to know anything about locations, or want me to try to dig into any of this.
Hey there, sorry about the delay in thanking you. It’s going to be weird, talking him up about the Greenwich Village parade then taking him to a mall—but he’s only three, so he should recover (or not remember the bait-and-switch until therapy years later). The weekend before we’ll be at the Diplomat—seems like that’s when most activities are taking place. Even the hotel is hosting their own thing (though not sure how that will work). For Halloween itself we’ll be at the B. Tried calling the hotel concierges asking about downtown Ft. Lauderdale or around, none had kid-like suggestions. We though about taking him out for the afternoon then letting my folks watch him as we head out—but our costumes are based around five people, so that will be a bit problematic. They’ll be a few family events, but if there’s time between the rushes that would be great. We’d hoped to take in a show at Revolution Live, but everything we’d want to see (M. Hart; Parliament) are there the week before. Ach.
As I mentioned, I’ll be at a bar across the street from the B that night…in fact, I’ll be there tonight, too. But my crowd is not going to be doing the Halloween thing…no costumes, etc.
I’ll check out the Hollywood (Diplomat) stuff for the week before. It’s far enough away to have separate web sites, but only 10-15 minutes driving.
