QtM–I have now sat through ALL of the special extra stuff on ALL the LOTR (TR) DVDs.
It ain’t there. There is some reference to Orlando Bloom’s being in film school and of Elijah Wood being just 17 when he was cast etc, but no “raw” footage of his audition tape (or Orlando’s).
It was fun and all, but it is an itch left unscratched. And so it must remain, because I am heartily sick of LOTR and PJ at this point.
(no worries. in a few months, I’ll watch again).
I disagree. It’s a great scene in the book, certainly a hell of a teaser, but the execution was one of the few that spectacularly failed. The shot where Jackson CGIed the orcs flooding into the hall from the walls and ceilings like roaches was some terrible CGI and conceptually silly. The part with the Balrog and Gandalf squaring off on the bridge and the Fellowship escaping amid arrows was pure gold, but the stuff leading up to it with the orcs chasing and the Fellowship fleeing looked atrocious.
ETA: Incidentally, I wonder if the fact it was released early as a teaser contributed to the bad CGI. Perhaps they never took time to go back and fix some CGI that later could have been improved upon.
And (if all this weren’t enough)… WHERE is the bit about Viggo buying the stunt woman the horse she rode for 2 years? I remember her tearing up about it and was quite moved that Viggo would do such a kind thing. I know it’s on the EE somewhere (at least I think it is) but I have sat through enough of this for now.
Irrelevant aside: I hope they do a similar treatment of the Harry Potter films, but doubt it…
I wonder if any of this footage you’re looking for might be on the Platinum Series Extended Edition Collector’s Gift Set version. That was the EE, but included an extra DVD of some sort, and a statue or something.
