Woo! Trailer for ROTK:EE looks great! (spoilers, probably)

They just put up the trailer for the extended edition of Return of the King over at Lord of the Rings.net. It’s at the left side of the home page, labeled “Sneak Preview”. Lotsa good stuff to see!

I’m so glad we’ll get to see (and hear) a lot more of Christopher Lee, because I just love his voice.

Some of my favorite deleted stuff is in there, including:
The headless statue at the Crossroads

The Mouth of Sauron

Aragorn confronting Sauron via the Palantir

Gandalf confronting the Witch King (albeit on the ramparts and not at the gate)

Frodo and Sam being forced to run with the orcs
Yay!

Ooooh, I’ve been waiting for Running Over Thomas Kinkade: Every Evening forever!

Thanks for the reminder. I just watched the trailer. I’ve been re-watching the EE FOTR film with the bonus stuff again, and plan to do the EE TT and bonus stuff before the release of EE ROTK.

Possibly the only thing still missing would be those sentient statues at Cirith Ungol – the bird-like things that screamed when Frodo & Sam went by. (am I remembering this right…?) Would’ve loved to have seen that.

Oh Yay!!! I watched this new 6-minute preview over and over at work today…well snuck in three times at least. This fangirl/geek is so excited: New stuff with Faramir, Merry, Pippin, Eowyn. More Frodo and Sam in Mordor! I am thrilled. December 14th cannot come soon enough.

Thanks guys. Now I have to go sponge the drool off of my keyboard.

The diretcor thought LotR3 was a bit short???

Anyway, I’m looking forward to getting some questions answered, like what hapenned to the pirates and a few others I can’t remember now.

What was left unanswered? The ships that Aragorn et al. took back were obviously commandeered by the horde of ghosts that made mincemeat of an entire Mordor army. I doubt that a legion or two of pirates would have much of a chance.

I’d be a backer for that movie in a heartbeat!

Waaa it won’t run for me!

I believe he was joking.

Why would that be a joke? If you cut out the appendices, Return of the King is the shortest book of the trilogy. From the context at that point, I think he was talking about the books, not the movies. All of the movies were about as long as they could get away with making them (and thus all about the same length), since they wanted to cut out as little as possible.

I can’t wait to see my 50 extra mins of Hobbity goodness! Peter Jackson was quite right when he said RotK was too short (something Tolkien also said about the book). Unfortunately I’ve sworn an oath to my kids that I won’t attempt to see the EE until they give me the DVD on Christmas Day :smack: . How the hell am I supposed to last that long?

I too am up to my knees in dribble. Please don’t look at me like that…

Oh brother, Halfling, you and me both. Last year I bought TTT:EE for myself the day it was released and my Mother and Sister were {ahem} well let’s just say that they were less than pleased with my decision to purchase it at that time

So, I’m stuck until Christmas, too :frowning:

My family understands that they don’t interfere with me and JRRT. Mrs. Mercotan got a stern lesson in that over 25 years ago. We were shopping for Xmas presents, and I found a book on the discount table: “Pictures by JRRT”. I was about to buy it, when she chastised me for purchasing it for myself, and said I should wait to be given it for Xmas. So I put it back and did without.

Of course, Xmas came and went, and NO BOOK! It had gone out of print, and was no longer to be found, despite me haunting used book stores, and querying thru out of print book services. I did not actually get my own copy for over 20 years, when they re-published it. It was actually Mrs. Mercotan who spotted it, and gave it to me, as she’d felt the terrible burden of guilt over the decades.

Yeah, and introducing whole new plot points and meaningless diversions really did a WHOLE lot to shorten the length of the films.

I don’t really mind the added plots (except Aragorn falling…), but it’s hypocritical to complain that there isn’t enough time yet add to the films running length unnecessarily.

Lie. It’ll be totally worth it.

Well Minty Green undefined don’t think I haven’t considered deceit. I have gone down this road before and, ahem, I have two copies of FotR to prove it (one of which will have to remain permanently hidden, or “in reserve” as I prefer to think of it  ). I was hoping to be strong this time round and how I wish I hadn’t seen that dammned sneak preview! I’m weak, weak, weak! Oh Elbereth Gilthoniel…!

Er, undefined? Cursed bloody script prompt. I’m sure you are as defined as anyone has a right to be Minty Green

The shortest book, sure, but certainly not the shortest of the three movies. I’m with Yookeroo – knowing Mr. Jackson’s sense of humor, I’m inclined to think that he’s joking.
