I’d concur. Although I don’t know about the breed standard eye colors, she looks very like the Black Mouth Cur pup on this page.

Looks like a Carolina Dog to me ;). In other words: true American Muttley Dog. I bet that’s gonna be a great dog.
Looks like a purebred all-American SQUEEE! puppy to me.
Good looking pup.

To answer some questions:
Her mouth and tongue are pink as can be. She’s between 8-12 weeks–she still has all her puppy teeth. Those cute little ears are natural and they stay perked. The vet’s office had lots of people with opinions–boxer, lab, pit. All involved agree that she is a mutt.
So far she has an excellent temperment…she is not agressive around dogs, cats, or small children–my 3 year old grandson played with her for quite a while yesterday and she handled it with grace. She doesn’t guard her food. Since she is already learning the important words for things at our house, I think she’s pretty clever. Unfortunately, she’s not housebroke yet, but we’ve had great sucess with our dogs on that little project and hope to have her most of the way there by the time we find her a new home.
Mr.stretch says I can’t keep her, but I will find her an excellent home. I would use our local adoption groups via Petfinder, but I watch them regularly and their dogs never seem to find homes. Rarely do I see a dog leave the Petfinder list in our area.
My main concern is that people think she’s a Pit. We’ve had lots of bad publicity around here with Pits and I don’t want her: chosen for fighting or baiting, picked up by a gang, or given to a fair-weather pet parent. So far, mr.stretch agrees that I can foster her until I find her a home that meets my requirements, so that’s good anyway.
More guesses on possible parentage are welcome. And I have more pics!
I am thinking of akita mix.
Because Pit Bull types are among the most common dogs out there right now (up to half the “admissions” to some humane societies are pit bulls) while Boxers are rather uncommon - I’d say she’s definitely of pit bull descent, not boxer.
Ditto other pure breeds. There aren’t a lot of purebred Siberian Huskies running around procreating. There are lots of spitz/sled dog/husky type dogs, however.
It always cracks me up when people believe their dog is a cross between two pure breeds of dog, like an Irish Setter and a Briard - as if a purebred female Briard in heat happened to get out and ran into an intact male purebred Irish Setter.
Add on top of the pit bull type a breed that produces erect ears and blue eyes - I’d say she’s predominately husky type/pit bull type cross.
Having said that, she’s absolutely adorable and if you live anywhere near Indiana I’ll take her in a heartbeat.
It may still make sense to contact the groups because many are very lax about updating the petfinder site. Lots of dogs are listed long after they are gone and one of the main uses of petfinder.com for many rescues is just to get potential adopters in contact with the group. Updating petfinder pictures is, unfortunately, often very low on the priority list.
From the sound of it she’s in a great home for now and will only go to another great home so that’s what’s important. Have fun with her, she sounds like she’s going to be a great dog for somebody.
Indeed. I’m sure she’s a mix of a mix of a mix, but everyone likes to guess and what better excuse to post puppy pics?
It’s beautiful in the deserts of Washington this time of year…100 degrees in the shade, but it’s a dry heat! Wouldn’t you like to come for a visit?
