Four dead in NYC shootout last night

I was three blocks away from this last night and heard the gunfire. A four block area in Greenwich Village became a parking lot for squad cars and unmarked police vehicles. I stopped counting them after 60.

I think this is the third incident of cops being shot in a week here in New York City – not a good time to be a police officer.

Not to mention the stabbing two weeks ago.

The stabbing guy is a friend of mine - and is damn glad the guy who stabbed him aimed for the shiny and got him in the badge. (Broke the knife, saved Stu’s life.)

I’m torn on the mentality that drives people to volunteer to be an auxiliary police officer. You get the uniform, but you don’t get to carry a gun.

On one hand, it’s incredibly selfless and brave to give your time to help support the regular police force.

On the other, it seems like an obvious recipe for disaster.

I live less than one block from there. I heard all that happen last night since I had my window open due to the weather being so nice.

Kudos to the police for taking the shooter down.

Heard about it this morning. One of the murdered officers was a friend of mine.

Fuck.

I am so, so sorry.

I am so very, very sorry for your loss, and for your friend’s family as well.

Crescend, I am very sorry for your loss.

Aangelica, I’m glad to hear that your friend is okay. That’s a miraculous story that I’ll have to tell my brother in law – another NYPD officer.
