A man carrying a rifle and a handgun opened fire in a medical office building in Tulsa, Okla., on Wednesday afternoon, killing four people and injuring several others before apparently taking his own life in the latest mass shooting to shock the country, the authorities said.
At a news conference on Wednesday night, Eric Dalgleish, deputy chief of the Tulsa Police Department, said it was unclear whether the gunman had been targeting someone in particular.
…
Later reports have said that it was in an office building adjoining a hospital, not in a hospital itself.
ISTR a similar shooting, where the perp was a patient who was unhappy about being discharged from that practice. I’m thinking, due to the paucity of information, that it was a domestic dispute or some other issue where the shooter knew most or all of the people involved.
Dr. Preston Phillips, an orthopedic surgeon who performed back surgery on Louis last month, was shot and killed in the attack, Tulsa Police Chief Wendell Franklin said at a press conference Thursday. Louis was released from the hospital on May 24, but continued to complain that he was in pain, according to Franklin.
Louis “called several times over several days complaining of pain and wanted additional treatment,” Franklin said.
“Yesterday, June the 1st, Louis called Dr. Phillips’ office again, complaining of back pain and wanting additional assistance,” Franklin continued, adding that Louis legally purchased a semi-automatic AR-15-style rifle at 2 p.m. that same day from a local gun store.
A second orthopedist, Dr. Stephanie Husen, was killed in the shooting, police said. The other two victims were identified by authorities as Amanda Glenn, a receptionist at the medical center, and William Love, a patient.
Hmm. I have spinal arthritis from degeneration of the vertebrae just above the two I had operations on and encaged in titanium. That produces a whole buffet of pain and pain sites.
Somehow I never thought about bringing a rifle and a handgun to an appointment. There must be something wrong with my brain.
