Fox News--What is "G-Block"?

When I visit my parents, they sometimes have the TV tuned to Fox News. I’ve noticed that their news program has certain, usually short, feature items which they label “G-Block”.

Has anyone else noticed this? What is it supposed to be alluding to?

What does Shepard Smith mean by the “G block?”

“Each segment of our shows is titled with a letter of the alphabet. We call the segments “blocks.” A block is made up of the time between each commercial break and is sometimes further broken down into smaller segments such as A1, A2, A3…
When Shep Smith refers to the “G Block” he is indicating that it is the seventh and last block of FOX Report. It is usually the segment in which he discusses entertainment and “lighter” stories.”

D’oh, just found the same link myself. Thanks just the same.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. According to this explanation, the words ‘segment’ and ‘block’ are synonymous. So why use two different words? Why isn’t it called ‘G-segment’? If someone had been giving this explanation to me, I would have stopped them at, "We call the segments ‘blocks’ ". I would have said, "No, you call the segments ‘segments’ ".
