Frank Zappa Catalog & iTunes

When looking for an album on iTunes, I noticed that the huge Frank Zappa catalog of albums had disappeared. Does anyone know what happened?

After doing some googling, I found that Gail Zappa wasn’t happy with the way Ryko was handling the Zappa catalog, that the Warner Music Group had bought Ryko, and appears to have pulled the Ryko catalog from iTunes and eMusic. The Warner Music Group seems to be unhappy with iTunes.

It would be a shame if the vast Zappa catalog went out-of-print because of corporate greed and power struggles.

The Zappa.com website is selling CD’s at high prices: $18 (minimum) plus anal rape shipping*. Of course, you have to navigate that horrid website first, so you’ll probably never make it to checkout.

They are still available at Amazon at sane prices, and I’d imagine record stores too. I’ve also noticed that Zappa is no longer available at Rhapsody or Yahoo either, so I’d imagine downloads may not be for sale anywhere legally** on the net. Maybe they’ve decided the music is so dear that no one should have it.

** to the folks who will chime in with the questionable sites, don’t bother. We know.

I’m a big Zappa fan and already have almost everything.

My question is, how did you edit your post? I’m a member, but I have not option to edit my posts.

Yes you do, for the first 5 minutes after you post. Part of the new server. Read around a little.

The irony of this is the news that Warner Music, with whom (IIRC) FZ had huge legal battles, now owns Ryko. Frank must be rolling in his grave.
